100% immunity is not something we are born with, we rely on our mothers immune system as a basis and build on it as we encounter new threats during our life. I think the mammoth clone would have exactly the same immune system as the DNA it was created from, then very quickly it would build new immunities to whatever we have floating around these days.

Or we could vaccinate them.

With a solution of brine, Worcestershire Sauce, garlic, onions, ........

That true, but today diseases, the mammoth DNA may not fight off.  case examples, anthrax that can sicken wildlife and livestock.  the elk/bison disease that ramped the area of Yellowstone in 1990s, and the wild horse/mule that passes disease to the desert bighorn sheep and antelope.   despite these are small occurrence, most of the animals where able to fight them off easily because they have been exposed to them at a low level and DNA passing on to the next generation.
The mammonth case, they may not have that DNA to bare off the disease.  Also, their DNA may not have the ability to fight off today disease that have a more complex defensive system to kill its host.

well, the way they plan on having it done is having a real elephant give birth to it, so would it also build off that elephants immune system aswell?

I think so, because at least some immunities are passed to the feotus directly from the mother via the umbilical cord, if I am remembering that correctly.

I've heard grilling things helps build up immunity, its for the mammoth's own good. Once it is grilled and 'vaccinated' as you mention, the mammoth would never get sick again.

Then the mammoth only faces the same risks all naturaly living creatures do. I still think a mammoth would chose a sickly life in captivity than total non-existence. Unfortunately seeing as we can only find out how happy a mammoth would be alive is to do it. We can't very well ask something that does not exist how it feels.
If it turns out the mammoth is not happy with life, and would have prefered to never exist at all, Vonmessa and I are going to eat it. Everyone is happy.

Like pork i expect! Mammoth bacon....

Does raise the question though....how smart are mammoths? Elephants are too smart to be considered live stock. Eating mammoth might just be a crime against intelligent life. (much like eating pigs is)

it would be a crime wether they were smart or not. bringing an animal we had hunted to extinction back from the grave just we could hunt it some more. that to me seems like its "playing god"

I my self am one of them. If early humans hunted them to extinction they must have been good.

Fast forward to the future when mammoths are reintroduced as wild animals in America to their former ranges....

(SFX:  Telephone Rings X3)

(Female Voice) "Meade County Kansas Non-Emergency, how can I help you?"

(Muffled Voice on Phone) "mumblemumblemumble...on highway 4....mumbmemumble, it's pretty extensive..."

(Female Voice) "Well sir, thank you for the heads-up and we'll send someone out as quick as we can."

(SFX:  Hangs Up Phone)

(SFX:  Radio Squelch Tail, then silence)

(Female Voice)  "Base to 114 and 121"

(Male Voice on Radio)  "114"

(2nd Male Voice on Radio)  "121"

(Female Voice)  "Yeah, we need you both of you over to Highway 4 across from where the Kellermann Silos used to be for another "Code Brown"

(Male Voice on Radio) 114....copy that....121 do you still have the snowplow on your truck?"

(2nd Male Voice) "121...that's a 10-4...how big this time?"

(Female Voice)  "Well it's blocking the entire Eastbound lane"

(2nd Male Voice on Radio)  "121...10-4... ah well...I AM the county "Mammoth Meadow Muffin' Mover..."

personaly I think this is just humans playing with something they have no business messing with,  once they start to clone humans(if they havnt done it allready, which I believe they have) they will say this is proof God doesnt exist, they will extend human life to hundreds of years, and make you take on a microchip so they "Know" who you are......dont believe them, once this age is over, the next age is permanent .  And trust me, a place with no love is not gonna be a good or fun place.....forever....
