My best C.202 memory is from way back in 2000 or 2001 during AH1, back before bombers had formations. I saw a large dar bar moving south off to the east of the center island on NDISLES. I figured it was a bomber raid and for some reason I decided to take a C.202. I took off from the base on the SE side of the center island and climbed out to intercept. As gained on the contact, I could see it was a single B-17 being escorted by a P-51 and two F4Us. I know I have no real shot at the bomber, but I figure I can play with the escorts a bit. I bait the escorts by looking like a moron, free kill by climbing my C.202 slowly up the B-17's six. All three take the bait and dive down on me, as soon as they are committed I break turn and engage. First to draw my fire is the P-51, which I shoot up a bit, get a leak on something, radiator I think, and decided I've been on that target a bit long for my health. I break turn away from the '51 just as a bunch of .50 tracers go screaming through where I was. The P-51 puts his nose down and the last I see of him is a dot trailing something. As I tangle with the F4Us we lose altitude, but at about 5,000ft I remove something vital from one of them and he loses control and goes in. The other one lasts until we are in a flat turn, on the deck, with speeds of about 150mph and be gaining position (F4Us didn't have wonder flaps back then), so he decides to make a run for it. F4Us don't accelerate very well and I gun him down, relatively slowly, as he tries to escape.
Landed two kills. Stripped all escort from the B-17. Not bad for something armed with two 12.7mm and two 7.7mm guns.
