Trust me when I say that you will appreciate the simplicity of the WW2 type aircraft much more after a few days learning the start up procedures for Black Shark and the A-10C. I got the start up for A-10C down in about a day after sitting in the hangar just starting and shutting down the plane over and over. Its easy to do; much more so that the Black Shark start up process. Which takes me about 10 minutes on a good day; I like that game but its just a PITA to get started and flying.

How does it do the collective?  How is that programmed into my CH Products trio?

For now, I will get Black Shark from DCS in England and have it mailed to me.  They also have a 500 page spiral bound op manual for $30.  When I had my Commodore 64, Microprose had the helicopter combat sim Gunship that was fun.  It came with a keyboard overlay.

While I'm waiting I'll play with the FC2 Su-33.

I've seen videos of how they taught Army pilots to fly the Huey during 'Nam, tethered to the ground with a big fat cable and all day long just feeling out those pedals and collective.

I remember learning weapons in military classrooms, sitting at tables in class, disassembling and reassembling them before ever allowed out on the range.  The military knows how to train the guys they want and just how to do it---their way, and get the guys they want.

Thanks for the info.

Not banned, yet.  I usually just read the forum.

For those of us that like a little modern era combat support jet combat here it is boys....a true mud mover and a little A2A mixed in just for grins and trying to stay alive!

Bought the A-10 program last night from the England company.  It is supposed to come by landline mail.

You should also get this thing; found it on the DCS forums

+1

I bought Black Shark on disc from a guy over at SimHQ but you can get Black Shark discs on Amazon all day long. Also you could have just done the digital download from DCS and been playing already for both of them. It doesn't require Steam authentication at all; just a serial number activation and verification through them.

Yep. Digital download is a way to go. I've been a seed for past few days - 42Gigs uploaded so far.

Wow, a #7, really?  I'm on a roll this week.

Maybe i'm slow - but why are you guys not just downloading the installer?

Many people feel more confident holding their own physical copy that they paid for on a produced item rather than a serial-number (usually in virtual media, IE: an email) that entitles them to their copy of the produced item that they paid for.

I know there are lots of pros to downloading it with the installer, like getting the most recent and patched version out of the gate and less CDs that I have to properly store somewhere, but I too like having my own physical copy when I pay for something to touch and feel to validate my purchase... it's weird, I know.  I'm also one of the few people that will go out and buy a physical CD from an artist or band if I discovered their music (usually online through "pirated" means) and decide it's worth $20 to invest in.

I like physical copies myself but I burned the different parts that I downloaded to a DVD so I am good to go for now.

Started up with air to air, degraded with 2 AA-11s being launched at me, stripped all the ord - killed 2 of then, 1 with a heater and the other with the GAU. Then did CAS with remaining gun ammo till part of my wing was taken - limped home.

Not like we are doing the 2 minute startup procedure of a P47 for example here, are we? The AH management model is seriously dumbed down, players have no need to play with gearing, mixtures, pitches etc. In reality a 190 for example was superior in a surprise attack because it had a fully automated engine management where a P38 needed IIRC 10 adjustments to go from cruise to combat mode. Imagine being bounced and have to turn 10 knobs to correct positions to prevent your engines from eating themselves up in manouvers..  :rock

(Image removed from quote.)

Just decided to do a post mortum on this flight.

Confirmed now 3 AA-11 launches - 1 very nearly got me - passed just beneath my tail in the video shown. The T-80U gun run was fine - they didn't fire. But on the break to the east I ran head smack into a group of 3 or so T-80U's which were lasing me. One of those T-80U's fired its main gun - and sayonara to my right wing. As I regained control - 3 BMP-3s were now lasing me with their 30mm guns - at the same time. The T-80U's were popping off with their .50cal and now the BMP3's with their 30mm, both found my left wing and fuselage, hitting the left engine in the process and turning the left wing into swiss cheese.

List of master caution and warnings and stuff that went wrong:
- Centeral air data computer - NO altimeter, ASI, AOA. VSI seemed unaffected.
- Ground collision avoidance system inop - who cares
- Enhanced attitude control system, which is tied into the CADC, and the stability augmentation system which dampens out the yaw and pitch moments
- Left engine inner turbine temp at 900* and melting
- Obviously no right wing
- No countermeasures - all shot off wings
- 1 barely working aileron
- Radar altimeter ok
- Left MFD dead - no moving map of bullseye info, but steam gauge HSI and ADI are good, as well as backups.
- Upfront CDU still functions - so can navigate with HSI and land if needed.

I've dead sticked an F-15 from 15,000 feet. I've landed a 1 wing, no engine P-47N on a moving carrier after AKAK and I had a beautiful midair. But I have never had a modern jet take that kinda damage, shrug it off, and land - not belly it in with most of its systems intact.

Patch is out.
Quote
A-10C 1.1.0.6 Patch Available

The DCS: A-10C Warthog Patch 1.1.0.6 is now available for download. Unlike some of our past product patches that had a large number changes and too often took a long time to create, for A-10C we will create patches with fewer changes but at more regular intervals. This also reduces the chances of new bugs being introduced.

This first patch includes what we could resolve over a two week period. We fully understand that there are still remaining bugs and the legitimate ones will be addressed in later patches. We simply could not resolve all of them in this first patch. Please have patience as the remaining bugs are resolved.

Run the patch as Administrator.

After applying the patch to an installed version of DCS: A-10C Warthog, please reboot your computer before running the game.

Download from: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.co...ch_1.1.0.6_en/

Patch Items:

• Fixed some discrepancies and mismatches in the default input profiles.
• Fixed minor bugs in the Quick Start missions.
• Fixed AI target acquisition bug in the bad weather. AI aircraft should no longer perform multiple runs on target without weapons release.
• Fixed minor graphics glitches when flying through overcast.
• Fixed CTD in the GUI input panel caused by reassigning commands on the some joysticks.
• Two working smoke generators on the A-10C is now possible.
• Integrated “Make TXT” function to the input panel. This function will make a TXT file of all device profiles with player's input assignments.
• Added a new “TREES VISIBILITY” slider in the graphics option panel. It allows you to adjust trees visibility from 1,500 to 15,000 meters independently of visibility range option.
• Fixed background of rank promotion window.
• The minimum value of the THICKNESS slider for overcast is limited to 200 meters by reason of technological limitation.
• Fixed a bug with non moving ground vehicles at some conditions observed in the release.
• AI-fighter will now always try to launch AA missile when target has entered into non-escape envelope. However, AI-fighters will fire missile immediately if it appears the fighter is losing its first-launch superiority.
• In the ME, the speed value of the first point of a route will not reset after mission play in simulator.
• The night sights were removed from MANPAD SAMs.
• Fixed a bug with "Left Hydraulics Res" and "Left Hydraulics pressure" failure after repair.
• MWS on the A-10C will react to all missiles in the certain range, not only hostile.
• Increased range of LOD switching from 1,200 to 2,200 for Vasiani hangars.
• Added missing textures of Tunguska, Kub and Buk missiles.
• Master Caution will not active when starting an engine.
• Added missing green position light on the AH-1 Cobra.
• Adjusted oxygen mixture for high altitudes. The pilot will not suffer hypoxia during high altitude flight.
