HTC wants first person shooter in this game. they just cant figure out a good way to :aok

I know that he said so in a thread, but I wish I had been to a convention or two, because I can't read whether or not he was serious or yanking our chain.  Either way he has my attention.  I do not like the current system for capture.

From what I recall, he said something to the effect of his dream for capture was by dropping troops a spawn would be created where first person shooter game play would ensue.

Just so I'm clear on this..... Who asked for First person shooter ingame?  I know I didn't, not in this thread anyway.  (AND......  when I mentioned it two weeks ago it was to make fun of a dumb wish about something totally diff)

All I mentioned was FPS.

Ummm... FPS quite often stands for First Person Shooter... so perhaps you need to communicate better and clarify what you mean by FPS?

I'm +1 on the idea of drop troops to help re-supply. More reason for goon flying the better. Goons are like flying targets, and the more in the air, the better IMO.

This isn't General Discussion, or actually the O'Club...........  Ummmmmmmmm.....  You do realize that right buttercup?

In a Wishlist thread, if I have to "clarify" that just means you must be perceptually impaired.  OK, note taken, knite may be a little slow.  I will type in bigger words next time.

Hey when I use the magic mushroom, how long is it supposed to last?  I think we have a bug because mine only lasts 5 seconds...................... .

EDIT:  See how dumb that sounds?  Your comments are about the same.  This is AH, not Halo, in our game fps stands for frames/framerate per second, and nothing else........  EVER. It even shows up on your screen as fps when you enable the display.

lol Wow, calm down.

I heard this one guy talking about a different FPS once...

HiTech dream of capture.

1. Drop troops on town creates a spawn.
2. In building 1st person shooter fights to take over the town.
LOOK EVERYBODY!  I GOT MY NAME IN LIGHTS!

Folks, play nice.

LLogan,

I don't know what your going on about.  I asked how troops turning into sawdust (didn't know they did that in Halo) would impact FPS.  Jayhawk, commented that
FPS   :(
meant First Person Shooter squiggly face  :headscratch:

So, I responded by saying that is not what I asked for.  Now, that we have moved onto psychedelic mushrooms, I really do have a problem with how anything that you have posted is relevant in this thread.  I am sorry if that sounds harsh, but many times it is better just to say that you don't like something -1 or give an explanation of why you believe the original post was lacking.

Your quote of my post was referring to "he" as being Hitech.  Hitech, in a distant thread said this
HiTech dream of capture.

1. Drop troops on town creates a spawn.
2. In building 1st person shooter fights to take over the town.
(demit JayHawk you beat me to it)

I hope the boss is sleep, or knows that I don't hold him to this statement.  Even now when I read that, I go wow!  But when I read between the lines, it says that Hitech has a sense of humor, and not even things on his wishlist get picked up.  :D

What I am proposing is relatively small changes to the current system.  That impact game play and better utilizes the new animated troops.  I am not asking for hammers and saws, bulldozers or fire hoses.  Just a little something for the excess troops to do:  help rebuild a base (a scaled down version of field supply boxes), that go poof and turn into sawdust when they hit the dirt.  Only, I ask that they run to the indestructible hangar of friendly fields before they get beamed up by Scotty.

Now that I am clear that you did mean frame rate FPS (frames per second), I have no evidence that dropping troops or supplies has any significant hit on framerates.  I ran a 4th of July fly by with @ 30  goons.  We all released troops over our target base in formation.  That means that an estimated 300 troops were in the air at the same time, with no complaints.

Wow... That would be really cool actually!

Would kind of be more like WWII Online!  That game was fun, but the aircraft aspect didn't hold my attention, so I never subscribed.  That and the graphics seem to be from the early 2000's, could use an update.

Kinda liked the idea that freindly troops could be deployed to  positons (either in stand alone trenches or into "certain" buildings or under bridges) from which would eminate .303 small arms fire.

If there were excess troops deployed during a capture then they would march in file dropping one off at each position until all  (10) positons were  filled.

Alternately instead of ground guns coming on automatically troops had to be deployed (two per gun?) to activate them.

OK, first off, like I just said.... In this wishlist area of the BBS, FPS can only mean framerate per second..... That's just common sense, it's the Wishlist.   :neener:  You know, for wishing for AH stuff?  Maybe you are mixing up your time with WOW?

Now if you want harsh, I'll give you some......... What's your problem with the relevance?  You obviously have no idea how the game works than.  It comes down to internet connection my brotha........  I rarely run into trouble but do see a fps drop in a big furball.  Now other people, such as the ones on dialup, would be negatively affected by just about anything that increases the number of poly's being drawn per frame.  Every single object your computer has to draw can slow your fps down.  If your computer is 5 years old, it draws alot slower than one from 3 months ago.  Your 300 troops in the air doesn't affect you much because you bought a new computer.  But that has nothing to do with Minimum system requirements.  How does the person on a dialup with a single core 1.8 GHz box see that kind of thing?  Not very well, trust me (used to be that guy)  Nowadays, even with a super fast laptop, I won't play on the road because hotel's have the worst internet ever.  I can sometimes barely pull 12 fps.  If I saw 30 Goons dropping troops my crap would go down to 1 fps for a good 5 minutes..... By then I'd be dead.

I really do have a problem with how anything that you have posted is relevant in this thread.  I am sorry if that sounds harsh, but many times it is better just to say that you don't like something -1 or give an explanation of why you believe the original post was lacking.

And even if you've got a good connection, with a good box, odds are you've seen a drop in fps when you're on the runway with 20 friends............  Did you ever wonder why?

So back to your wish.....................  FPS.  Not everybody can afford the best box.  And even the ones that do have a decent system would never use such a thing simply because in will inhibit their ability to kill.  The only way possible that it would work is if it was fully able to be disabled.  So now, basically anybody who knows how the game works, will disable it.  The same way dr7 knows to remove as much detail as possible and disable other people's skins.

But seriously...... If you don't know how fps is relevant to your wish, you should read more books and play less games.   :salute

The funniest part about all of this is I didn't really find it to be a bad idea, which is why all is said was FPS  :(   But since you want to be a shorter name than Richard about it, I am just going to go with the facts.........

A goon dropping troops on town or field, troops run to nearest downed field guns (2 per gun) and automatically repair said guns.

or

Troop drop over friendly white flagged town, cancel out the enemies running troops 1 for 1.

This sounds good to me.

That would be awesome too, it would really give both attackers and defenders something to look out for.  Plus the hull gun would definitely be used more too! :P

Fast-moving jeeps would also serve a real purpose while attacking; anti-infantry!

LLogan,

You seem to think that you know more about FPS than I do.  Maybe you do.  In fact, I hope that you do.  :aok  On my desktop, at this very moment are bookmarks on discussion about QoS for XP, TCP enhancements, Improved Routing Path Detection and Recovery and Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) support.

Quote
The issues that I have seem to be more about packet loss than frame rate issues.  So that you understand, my old trusty Sony Vaio served me well for AHII for the past 3 to 4 years, way past her prime AGP x4 vid slot.  She finally blew her 3rd vid card in game and it was nothing but onboard 32 mb of memory for me for months until I recently did a rebuild of a Dell Dimension 5100, still not screaming gaming machine  :frown: but with a $20 PCIe card I am back in the saddle.

Considering the way that captures are achieved (large number of players) your very low end player would not be involved anyhow.  Ask me how I know (points above to 32 mb onboard video).  The problem with FPS, that you are referring to, just does not exist beyond what is already a known risk to players that attempt to play the game with equipment that does not meet the minimum requirements.

Here is a tip, disable your vsync, turn off antialiasing in video settings of the game.  Turn all sliders in graphics details to the right.  Turn off all graphic detail in advanced settings under options graphic detail.  Uncheck download skins in hangar.  Disable vehicle effects, view other player skins, horizon etc....  Use shift (or control) F3 to turn on short vis range.

NOW LOOK AT YOUR FPS and compare.  You have removed all of those clutter things that were unwinding the rubber band attached to your propeller.  Then tell me that bringing troop carriers to a base would be a FPS problem.

All that said, HTC amazes me with the support of lower end systems.  That is what won me over, from WWII Online beta originally, and has kept me in the hunt for so long.
