Wasn't WoP based on the Il-2 software?

I'm going to say yes, only from what I've heard. I didn't play IL2 for more than a couple hours.

According to Google translator. Apparently, World of Planes will "promise the most realistic game that could impress even experienced virtual drivers." It goes on by saying that there will be no Arcade mode. I guess they want to focus on absolute realism, or close to it as possible without taking away the fun aspect.

You can buy one on Qbids for $19.67!   Just like the Apple IPads for $4.98.  ;)

We are very pleased that «World of Planes» announce had good feedback from press and gamers.

Of course, announcement of the game with screenshots from «Wings of Prey» (1.5 years old game) — is April's Fools Day joke!

It could always inadvertently help business as well.  If such a game draws a crowd into the WW2 combat genre, they may be more likely to discover this superior game and jump ship.  That is assuming it is superior which I'm sure it is.

Call it "free indirect advertisement".

Yes. Back when I was with Mechanical Dynamics, Inc (long since bought out by MSC), we used to say that of our competition. We dominated in market share but there they were, helping us grow the Dynamics CAE market.

I was talking about this very thing in  another thread - MMOGs very much rely on bandwagon effect. More buzz means more baby seals and more club-club-clubbin with blood-and-gore-soaked nail-impaled beatin' sticks. If the arscheklownen help create more afcionados, they can (and will) find their way here.

My fondest hope: all-phase total WWII with every type of weapon and combatant - someday.

<edit ex post facto> and boy am I glad I didn't post anything about WOP and the veracity of any claims pertaining to...

You didn't suspect enough to refrain from posting the "news" though.   :D

That was supposed to be the case when WW2OL...now BattleGround Europe came out. They were supposed to set it up with theaters all over the world with players having several different online "personas" in order to play as Soviet, German, English, French, American, Japanese, etc... in order to have fun. Too bad it didn't happen the way they wanted.
