Quote from: Ray Mabus
neither of the recipients of the Navy Cross today were born in this country. But through their active service, both have demonstrated a deep and enduring love for the United States of America and a commitment to defend everything it represents

That is outstanding that both of them did what they did...not for us but for their fellow soldiers and Marines that day. :salute

They certainly earned their citizenship and we are a far better nation for people like that.

Ouch, I hope that they don't have to go through that again.  So, what happens to them now?  Do they get sent back, or do they get an honorable discharge?

READING is fundamental...read the story again and you will see what they are doing now...hint...hint.

Shoot, it looks like missed it.  I see that they're trainers now.  It's because their knowledge and experience can train better soldiers, right?

Yep that would be it Penguin but just because they are trainers and Navy Cross winners doesn't mean that they can't or won't be called on to get on the front once again.

:aok  experience more than knowledge...they pass on what they learned to the newbies....and as long as they remain in the marine corps they could get called back to the front lines.

Wouldn't people be angry if the Marine Corps sent them back (unless it were WW3 or something like that).  But I understand your point about experience (e.g., there are old marines, there are bold marines, but there are no old, bold marines).

No. You don't stay in service expecting not to be sent out to perform the job you trained for.

you read too many bumper stickers...you're assuming they would not volunteer to return...as long as military personnel remain on active duty, they are subject to be returned to combat duty...that is what they signed on for and that is what they accept.
