I only have the server up for me, my brother, and sister, and a few friends right now. I have been thinking about letting more people in but there are a few problems with that.

1: I don't know how many people my server and computer will support before it just crashes.
2: The server is not dedicated and I only have it up whenever I'm online.

Depends on how much RAM/internet speed you have mostly.  The server needs 1GB minimum for itself; Plus you need a fast internet to keep up with the users.  Really 5 is the max you can host locally unless you have a really expensive computer on FiOS internet.  I was pushing it at 3 people on 3MB DSL.

Would have to ask Airflyer since it's really his Server (he's really the one paying, I cover the Vent server), but he may not mind extra people on, think 16 is our max.

I just bought the game yesterday, and I played until 1:30 AM.  Minecraft is addicting!  I can't wait to start building my epic cities of the sky.

 :rofl :rofl :rofl

Just read my previous post in this thread and get the DokuCraft Texture Pack. :D  I recommend it. :aok  I only wish he would get those armor skins up. :x

If you don't wish to take the slow route (mine ALL the materials to make your various buildings and things), you can get this MOD, http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/140684-172-toomanyitems-in-game-invedit-july-1/.

It came with the NOW pack that I was using for 1.6.6 and will make it FAR easier to build MASSIVE things in short order (which will be quite long depending on what you are trying to accomplish).  One fun bit about this MOD is, UNLIMITED TNT! :x :devil  I once managed to trap a Creeper in a 3x3x5 pit, then surrounded it with 130 blocks of TNT.  It was a perty explosion. :D  Playing with TNT Cannons is also fun!  Just don't screw up...  I blew up my last 3, each which created a hole that was big enough to KILL you if you fell in... :bhead  I know, I know, "Why didn't you use Obsidian?".  I much prefer to use Cobblestone or Smooth Stone.  Was going to build a Mossy Cannon, or try to, (Cannon made out of Moss Stone), but the update hit.

Right now I'm just playing regular old Minecraft (no mods, just the texture pack) and got me a good diamond mine going plus a decent house complete with a basement that has my underground farms.  For the spork of it, I created a basic 7x7x4 12 story dirt tower. :)  Damn Creepers blew it up 3 times already.... :bhead  Currently running around trying to find Sugar Cane though, so I can get a map created.  I've gone four Minecraft days away from my tower trying to find the stuff.. :cry  Good thing I have me compass.  I only need ONE sugar cane...Just ONE!!! :furious  But NOOOO...  Four friggen days so far and I'm finding a fat load of NOTHING! :bhead

One other thing, Minecraft can be extremely scary!  If you made the mistake I did, and played all alone in the dark, the noises that come from caves are downright terrifying.  I installed a Nether portal right near my house, and that wasn't one of my brightest ideas.  So many scary noises came out of that thing that I had to break it.

On another note, I had read about Minecraft for months, studied it, and thought that I had developed a foolproof plan to survive my first night on my first try.  Nope, I failed three times before I succeeded.  Then, I had my first fatal encounter with a creeper- I was carrying all my valuables (another big no-no).  Then, I tried to fight lava, and lost.  Thereafter, I installed a danger sign over the entrance to the tunnel that read:

DANGER: LAVA
LIVES CLAIMED
         1

One thing that I think is really cramping my enjoyment is the fact that I play on hard.  Perhaps I should just create a new world for building, because just surviving takes up a huge amount of time.

However, whatever I do, Minecraft rocks.

Hard only makes the enemies hit you harder.  They don't have more HP and you do less damage kind of thing nor do they spawn more often on hard (at least that is what I understand if I read it correctly).  If they at least spawned more often vs just hitting you harder, I'd go with Hard.  I play Normal personally though as critters kill me plenty fast on Normal.  If you just want to get to building stuff, Peaceful is the way to go.  I find it a bit of a challenge trying to build on Normal though.

Yeah, Lava is a fun one.  Wait till you accidentally mine the block under you and fall into a huge arse lava pit. :bhead  Dem da breaks though. :lol  Really bites when you find a nice diamond vain....only to find out it's practically surrounded by lava. :cry  One of Lava's Two For One Specials...the diamond and you. :lol  I've told myself, "Leave a large enough opening so you can get away...", but once you spot that diamond... :x

After I find me some reed (sugar cane), I intend to create a roller coaster and/or subway/surface train system.  I've been wanting to do that for a little while.  Didn't do it when I had the NOW MOD on 1.6.6 because of TNT Cannons and Explosive Arrows. :devil

I have 6GB of RAM installed on my computer and have comcast cable internet. On a good day I can get up to 9MB/s download speed, 4MBs/s upload

One other thing, Minecraft can be extremely scary!

Too true! I will never get over being jumped by Creepers while in dark caves. Minecraft makes me paranoid the second I see a new, dark, unexplored cave.

Yep.

Oh you gotta LOVE how the Creepers just seem to just pop right out of the black void...  They also have a nice little habit of sneaking up behind you while mining.  Just mining along and you hear that, "SSsssss...*BOOM*!!!  AHHHHH!!!  *spills drink*".  I haven't ran into a Charged Creeper yet, but I do know what they look like (youtube vids).  Just one problem, with MY luck, it'll find me when I'm in a position where I can only do one thing, die. :lol :bhead

Now, if only I can find a Skeleton Spawner, I will have unlimited arrows.  A Spider Spawner would be nice as well but so far I've only found a Zombie Spawner.  Now an interesting thought, running into a Creeper Spawner. :O  Unfortunately, unless you use a MOD, you won't find Creeper Spawners. :cry  I've THOUGHT about creating one of those monster towers, but that seems like a major pain in da arse.  The "0" chunk doesn't spawn more than anywhere else now...

Holy cow!  I just found an epic cave system.  Here is the seed: greenbarnes

It's so big that I don't know how on earth I'll get out.  The epic cave system is very near the spawn, and its entrance is just a few blocks below the surface.

I have not bothered to put in anything for world generation.  What I read is, if you don't, it uses the time on your computer as the seed, but that it will ALWAYS be random when you do it this way (even if you managed to get the same exact time).  I prefer the random you get. :aok  I also am aware that I COULD type in random things into the world generator to see what I get.  And now that I think about it, I think I will create a new world with Aces High as the world generator. :lol :D

I've been looking at getting one of the 256 texture packs, just to see how good they really look.  Has anyone used one of the 256 packs yet?  Recommendations?

UPDATE:  Oooo...a floating island (very small) made of sand?  Now that's trippy. :x  Found lava not but 12 blocks away from my spawn and 2 possible dungeons just under the sand.  I'll have to do some digging to confirm this, but it would be awesome if they were dungeons.  I hope to hell I find some fuggin reed close by though.... :bhead

The 256 bit graphics are great up close, but only if you can force anti-aliasing at long range.  Otherwise it looks very, very grainy when viewed from far away.  I have an ATI graphics card, but the only cards I know of that can be forced to perform antialiasing are those from Nvidia.

Have you thought of making a mob farmer? They do take a while to make, but are well worth it if you want lots of gunpowder, string, bones, arrows, and feathers.

I've used a 64x64 pack before. Looks nice, but I prefer the regular 16x16 that minecraft was made for. Painterly Texture Pack is by far my favorite for keeping the 16x16 and still having very nice textures.  :)
