Don't Move Your Controls So Rapidly

It doesn't matter how good your stick is, if you repeatedly move it fast enough you will trigger the message and control lock. There is an exception when your speed is slow enough to bypass the feature.

If you rapidly move the stick to full deflection 3 times with no damping I expect you'll trigger the message. Set enough damping to avoid the message and you shouldn't have any problems with it in combat. You can gradually decrease the amount of damping until you trigger it again while fighting if you want to find the minimum damping you need for your stick and flying style.

I don't know what a powered USB port is.   My joystick is a Logiteck Attack 3.  Its quite loose now but was still fine up until very recently.  

On a bad stick all you can do is adjust the damping/deadband, etc. On a good stick you shouldn't have to, and it may be a power or USB hub issue.

What stick are you using?

Eewww... Okay I missed that part. Yeah, you can damper it a bit but that's all. Do not replace with the same stick, whenever you get a new one.

How old is you stick Grundle1? If it suddenly started doing this, you might try going to Windows -> Game Controllers and observing the little crosshair moving around the box. If it suddenly jerks across the box at any point that would be indicative of a faulty potentiometer which in AH would certainly produce 'Don't move your controls so rapidly' messages.

Yes, a rubbish stick and no rudder pedals.   Accounts for my abject mediocrity...ahem.   Joachim's suggestion of altering the damping was right; I was able to cut the "Don't move your controls so rapidly" messages out completely.   Unfortunately, it made my zero feel sluggish.  I have been following FLS' advice and gradually reducing the damping, but I still don't have the twitchy feel I need to fight the zero properly.    Looks like another stick.   Anybody care to suggest a really quality stick that I could buy for $60 or $70?   Thanks

Saitek has some pretty cheap sticks that work well. They won't last like the more expensive sticks like CH Products and such, but most people get a year or so out of them and they have enough buttons to work out ok.

Grundle in order to simulate control forces there is a little delay between moving the controller full deflection and the control surface, like the rudder, going to full deflection. You can see this by looking at the control surface as you move the controller. Even with zero damping set on the stick you won't get an instant linear response on the control surface.

I've had my Saitek Cyborg Graphite for some ~10 years or so IIRC.
My brother gave it to me ~2005/2006 and I've been using it since.

The hat switch and main trigger are both out, but the built in throttle
and remaining buttons work excellently.

I don't believe that they're sold anymore, but if you see one brand new
in a box, go for it!

10-4 -I understand, FLS.  I've got the damping just high enough to avoid the messages, but I seem to have lost some feel.   A new joystick will be needed.   Wrongway, the link didn't open, but thanks.   EskimoJoe,   the Saiteks seem to get solid reviews.  The CH products are expensive.  I wonder if they are that much better than the (much cheaper) Saiteks.  Thanks, everyone.

You may find that you can decrease damping enough to fail the test but it's still enough to avoid trouble in combat. That will reduce the mushy feel.

As long as your stick isn't spiking you can fly with 0 damping. You just have to train yourself to fly smoother.
