But then again I wonder why anyone these days bothers with boxed versions as physical media is quickly becoming obsolete.

Marketing. Box can be displayed on store shelve.

When the game is over, the Kings and Pawns all go into the same box.

Interesting, they also own marketing rights to these games as well:

This game looks pretty cool too.  This claw from it looks sort of familiar.

The 80th now striking fear into the heart of Europe!

Reinforced roofs are being installed across Europe as we speak. Debris collection trucks are being assigned to every major city. Fire extinquishers are being stationed outside every field of size befitting a ditch/crash.

So at some point down the road do all of us current subscribers have to pony up $30.00 to get the definative version when this venture goes prime time? Will updates be included in our on going subscription? Or, will we be charged an extra fee for each update on top of our base subscription going forward with the boxed edition?

Congrats to HTC on a good venture, it is over due and a job well done.

Please HTC, now let us know if and how this will effect your existing paying customers going forward.

No, that's not how it's worked in any game that's done this before. [Edit: at least that I can think of]

Retail or direct to digital, you get the same game with the same online content.

I imagine the "extra content" might just include the skin viewer, terrain editor, maybe some behind the scenes stuff, the hi-res pack as default, maybe including the full skins library, or something similar.

P.S. The $30 also includes 2 months sub, so that's what the money really pays for.

Published a long list of crap games, Dracula Trilogy and Ship Simulator 2008 Collector's Edition included, but the best in show they have is.... Wings of Prey + Add-ons.

Officially this news worries me slightly. Taking control of 2 games in competition for the WW2 Sim market... May the juggling begin.

I wonder when the box sets will be released in Europe, it may mean a large influx of new players in the Training Arena.

Check out the pictures that Interactive posted, looks like the 80th made their way there as well.
