i dont know much other then he flew wildcats in WW2(thats all ive been told)I havnt bothered to check the timelines and stuff.how am i partially correct?
Because you were correct in that your squadron mate claims that is him flying a Wildcat during the war but incorrect in that the pilot actually flying that Wildcat is your squadron mate.
Basically, vWildcat is trying to pull the wool over your eyes and those of your squadron mates. He never served in World War II, wasn't born in 1916 (he'd be pushing 96 now) nor did he ever fly a Wildcat, Dauntless, C-47 or any other plane he's claimed to have flown. My guess the closest he's ever gotten to those planes was probably in an air museum.
Squadrons: VF8 on the USS Yorktown Until Midway and then the 14th Allied Air force
VF-8 was stationed onboard USS Hornet until just after Midway when it was de-established in August of 1942 until it was re-established in 1943 and then was stationed onboard USS Bunker Hill until the end of the war.
There was no such thing as the "14th Allied Air Force", it was the USAAF 14th Air Force in the China/CBI theater.
I earned my "Callsign" after the mission that sank the IJN HIRYU, LtCdr Thatch allowed me to put this on my AC, and named me 'Wildcat'.
I don't know why a commander from a completely different squadron in a different air wing would give vWildcat his callsign, let alone authorize him to paint it on his plane. Hiryu was attacked by planes from Enterprise, and none of the planes from Hornet were involved in the attack that sunk Hiryu.
In order from left to right: Navy Cross, Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart with three Clusters, and Good Conduct Medal.
Really?
