Speakin o' cop cars:
One of my regrets is I rarely ever got pix of cars I helped setup or put together ..
Late '70's I worked part time in a SoCal speed shop in Victorvile, CA .. Performance Associates.
Owner had a friend in the CHP who worked out of Barstow ..
..they had an idea that we could setup an 'interceptor' for them and they brought us a bran-new 454 '79 Monte Carlo to see what we could do.
Well.
We dual-turbo'd it. Big port heads, Engle provided the roller turbo spec cam, and two Holly 850's fed it.. along with forged internals and 9:1 pistons from TRW.. etc.
Beefed the tranny, suspension, rear went to a 2.56 ratio, tires were Pirelli's rated for 200mph.
Even put a small air dam front spoiler lookin thingy across the front under the bumper to prevent the front from gettin too light at speed.
It had a sweet low rumbly exhaust, sat a couple inches lower, looked mean as hell in black and white
Test drives were pretty amazin ..it wasn't 'quick' like my Duster but it felt like ridin a cannonball down a well .. it just kept accelerating with no fall off in sight.
It would fry the tires fairly easily when it hit second at 100mph or so. No one had wound it out in 3rd.
They brought it in for it's first oily change and checkup and couldn't stop talkin about it .. they *loved* it ..
.. one guy had run down a Ferrari with it, pulled up next to the guy and told him to pull over, at 175mph .. ROFL.
