P47D-11 vs F6F-5. Tactics requested.
« on: September 02, 2011, 12:49:42 PM »
Been flying in mid war alot, And im starting to like the P47D11 in there. Solid aircraft, decent speed.

The only problem is most of the Bish fly nothing but the f6f in there and Im not very knowledgeable at flying p47's.

So what are some tactics a p47D11 can use against an f6f in combat? if any at all?

Depends on what situation you are in and what kind of dogfighting you like best. Generally speaking you want to maintain a speed and altitude advantage on the F6F. Or against any opponent for that matter. The Jug is in its element as long as the enemy is below you because you can then use your 8 x .50 cals and dive ability to tear the enemy up. If the F6F you are fighting is a seasoned pilot and knows what he is doing, you will have your hands full. If he also happens to have an altitude advantage over you, then chances are you are going to lose the fight.

The D11, being the lightest of the P47 lineup in game, also turns the best. So make sure you are light on gas if you intend to turn 'n burn. You will also find that the Jugs are probably the worst in its class in terms of climb rate and acceleration (except the M). Fortunately the engine torque isn't too much. The P47's engine torque isn't like that of a 109. If you happen to be nose high, you can easily recover the stall spin with a little bit of rudder.

Try to make tight left turns when you are low and slow. You want to turn in the direction of your engine torque. Work your flaps. Don't keep all your flaps out in the entire fight. Use them only as you need them.

Hope this helps.

Generally, All the f6f pilots In MW tend to be alt monkies. Climbing to 15-20K before heading into enemy territory. The past 3 engagements ive had with an f6f in MW the hellcat had the alt/E advantage on me (Not counting TonyJoeys on the deck HO shot)
I generally take the 425rpm 6+50 cal option with 75%, Climb to 10-12K before i head to a base.
The left turn may help tho, I usually turn to the Right. I'll try the left turning. See if that helps. Thanks  :salute

If I wanted to fly a P-47 with 6 .50's I'd just up a F6F. :)

The advantage the P-47 has in this case is speed, firepower, and roll rate.  The hellcat can out turn and out climb you.  If you don't start with the altitude advantage you're going to have to try and force an overshoot early, if the F6F doesn't bite.  Or if the fight drags out and E is lost then he's going to hold most of the cards.

the D11 is very manuverable (in my hands) and if used correctly can easily outturn a F6F if you know what to do and when. if you ever need to get away from him (higher than 5k) just dive. he will NEVER keep up with you unless hes diving on you from 10k or  higher. the jug can outturn alot of planes, P51,F6F,P38,Spit9(depends on how agressivly your flying the D11) and the F4U. those are the planes that are outturned by the jug that i could come up with off the top of my head. what really matters is the situation you find yourself in. theres no "do this and this" for every situation, if you want help your going to need to list what alts and what packages you take on the jug.

Umm... No.  An F6F will eat any P-47 for lunch in a turn fight much less be "easily out-turned".
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

you obviously have never seen me fight in the p47d11 let alone any other jug. so unless you have the facts, dont make the accusation.

F6F outclimbs, outturns, and have enough firepower to bring down the D-11. It's also faster. Only reason a D-11 would be a F6F is because he was higher or had more E.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

If you fly that D11 anything like you did your hellkitty back in the DA then you truly have no idea what you are saying.
