I'd have to agree that I haven't had any problems with with hit detection on PC and whenever I have had lag it seemed it was server side as everyone was complaining about it.

The game just needs a few bugs smoothed out and it will be good to go.  The beta is supposedly, supposed to measure weapon balance and the code for the beta is TWO months old and many of the bugs for the retail release are already fixed.

The first three days of the beta was unplayable due to lag, even now there is still a lot of lag in the beta.

Are you playing on P.C? I've heard that consoles are having a real problem with their hit detection.

I've not had one of those moments where I've fired a clip into the enemy with no results. For me, the enemy is killed with 3-4 bullets from my M416.

I'm playing with PC naturally. The game is just worthless and I'm going to quit even trying. I'm getting the effects pictured in that youtube video all the time PLUS my shots don't do any damage to the enemies. I have walked behind an enemy and started shooting at his head, he turns around and kills me with 1 shot.

The game is a hopeless joke. No such problems in COD4 - I'll stick to COD from now on :)

Luckily there was the beta I didn't waste my money.

Someone wrote that the not-so-good hit detection system is just part of this beta and that the released version will be improved. Can't remember where I read it though so it might a bunch of bushwa.

I'm amazed to hear that the hit detection is so conflicted. My internet connection is very standard and I've had no problems what so ever.

Third hand from a DICE dev - they are scrambling like crazy to be ready for release. And have been for a while.  There's no sign that this game will be any different from previous DICE/EA games as far as bugs and glitches, game and server wise.  Even some of the "features" of the game at this point are badly flawed..  There's some stupid glitches carried right over from as far back as BF2 - you can see they just recycled the code for these.

I'm amazed to hear that the hit detection is so conflicted. My internet connection is very standard and I've had no problems what so ever.
No different from how it is in AH.  Your netroute to server is just one of billions or whatever # of possible routes; could be anything from impeccable to unplayable.  One data point doesn't say much.

Also like AH... Ripley's comments, as much as they sound like some of the worst games I've had lag wise, just can't be taken without grain of salt - without film.  There's no film in BF3.

Not "just a few bugs", although like BC2, the game core is so fun that it's not hard to ignore a lot of really stupid crap.  So "good to go" is relative to that, not so much a measure of how flawed the game is otherwise.
Weapon balance looks like it's going to be just as much of an kludged together artificial kiddie arcade piece of crap as previous BFs.

These guys are making millions and millions but can't bother hiring programmers to match.

I disagree wholheartedly on the issue of weapon balance.  There is no weapon that dominates the game, and not a single one is a locker queen.  The hit detection has issues, granted, but this is a BETA.  This is a server test, which the servers have most certainly failed- this is a good thing, too.  This means that DICE can fix their game before release, and it gives us a better end product as well.

As for the issue of 'kiddie-arcade', if you want more realism, try ARMA II or Project Reality for Battlefield 2.  Those guys have all the realism you could want and more.  At a certain point, it has to stop being a simulator and start being a game. If the weapons were exactly what the majority of each side used in real life, there would only be a few for each role.

US vs. RU:

Assault Rifles: M16A4 vs. AK-74M
Carbines: M4 Carbine vs. AK-74u
Light Machine Guns: M249 vs. PKM

There would be no pistols, and submachineguns, sniper rifles, designated marksman rifles, and shotguns would be specialist weapons.  Face it, unless you want to role-play or simulate, the game would be quite boring.

Playing in on the PS3, I got the quicksand bug, when I struggled out of it. It was amusing to watch others falling into it, some with the weird crawl bug.

No real problems with hit detection for me. I do find you need a couple of hits with a sniper rifle to bring someone down. In fact I got into a sniper battle with one guy, great fun. There are some frantic battles in the Metro.

Some people mentioned the graphics, I find MW2 is better.

We'll all be well sick of this map when the game comes out.

cpxxx IIRC there's at least 1 sniper rifle in the beta that gives you 1 hit kills for headshots.

Actually now that you mention it, I did get a couple of one shot headshots. But you have to hit him in the head in the first place! Most of the time I just pepper the scenery around him until he gets up and runs away.

I have 4 major issues with the game in it's current state.  The primary one is the netcode and hit detection, too often I see a bad guy and dive behind cover only to get hit because of net lag, not sure how to fix it but right now it's very, very frustrating.  Beyond that the user interface needs a lot of work, rather silly that you can't hit ESC to quit or change key binding without being in the game, spawned live in the current round playing.  Then there's the lack of squad selection, you can be IN a squad but can't choose which squad that is. Finally it seems that certain keys are hard coded and can't be changed, it hasn't effected me directly but my friend doesn't use the standard WSAD movement keys and he says they can't be remapped, which is just silly.

Still it's a beta and we'll see what the final release is, this is the first game I've ever pre-ordered but the beta has raised enough questions that I'm considering cancelling the pre-order and waiting to see what the final released product looks like before I buy.

dive behind cover only to get hit because of net lag
That's DICE's netcode.  It was the same in BC2.  Don't expect a fix.  Google their fix last time around:  their fix to the hitbox not matching players' actual position (lagging behind it, hence hits around corners) was to... make the hitbox bigger.  As in enlarge it out from its faulty "latent" position, "ahead" (interpolated).

Squad system's supposed to be fully implemented only at release.  They did say they intend to have lots/most of it done thru their browser system.

Not even gonna get started on the "can't press ESC" etc unless alive.  :lol  Just pure s%%t design.  It was the same in BC2, and similarly designed in BF2.  These things they can't grok even after tens of millions of $$$ profits drop onto their heads.  Morons.

Remapping limitations are a beta thing.  Same deal for me - WASD = PITA.

I played BC2 quite a bit and it never seemed to be as big of an issue than what I'm running into now in the beta, sounds like they are going to tweak the netcode for the final release, between that and hopefully servers that aren't so overloaded it will sort itself out.

just another reason to play it on consoles  ;) we never had any of those problems.
