Reduction drive on F4U? My uncle's Giant 51 will have DA-85, Solo Props 4-bladed paddle, Keleo exhaust, Robart tracts, BVM sequencing valve for doors, and Aerotech Canopy/Cockpit set.

It will be a winner :)
No reduction, converted it to use a DLE gasser.  4 bladed carbon prop painted scale, and balanced.
Id LOVE to see photos of that stang when she is done, sounds like its gunna be a beauty!

The F-4 should fly close in performance to my Habu 32 (uses same power system) so id guess 130-140mph

My next project is a 1/12th F4U, putting a .2 2-stroke into it.  I've really gotten into the smaller birds.  They store easier and easier to get to and from the field.  Engines are cheaper too.

Carbon is a good way to go considering the Byron way. No replacement props  :furious.

That's what got me into the 1/12th scale about 15 years ago...  Now days all the combat planes are foam built craptastic planes.  I still like to stick build mine, so I don't fly combat with them.  Just flying for fun.  Nobody else around here flies combat anyway.

My P51 has a .15 2-stroke, it's pretty zippy in its own right.  The F4U will be a bit heavier, so I'm going with the .2

Yea, but tower still sells some Combat sized warbirds in stick built ARF form... not bad looking birds for the money.

I enjoy the smaller stuff too, can go 5 minutes up the road and fly them @ the park, instead of driving 40 minutes to my paved runway club field to fly my jets.  Id never giv eup my jets though!

Ya I've seen the Tower birds (Tower Hobbies is actually only about 30 miles away from me), they look pretty nice.  I've just never been able to bring myself to buy an ARF.  Don't know why, but the weeks of building and the anticipation that precedes that first flight are what I love most about the hobby.

I spend so much time and effort on my jets, that when it comes to my park flyers and smaller electric stuff, I do ARF...

I get that.  I've never had the nads to do one of the jets.  Nowhere close to building and flying one anyway.  Heck, .40-.46 sized planes are about the largest that I like anyway.  Honestly, my favorite plane to fly is a 12 year old Kadet LT40.  I've trained probably 30 people how to fly RC on it and I can take it up and twist it in whatever direction the sticks will let me without ever even thinking about losing control.  It isn't fast or sexy, heck I covered it in Pink and White in honor of my oldest daughter (who is almost 16 now) shortly after she was born, but I can fly it in nearly any weather however I want and I probably wont crash it unless something finally fails physically.  There can be great fun in easy mode!

Agreed 100%!   I talk about my jets etc a lot because I love flying them, and love the adrenaline rush from flying them, but I also have a 25 year old "miss texas" which is a slow flying low wing sport plane, about a 6 foot wingspan, low powered, but sooo relaxing to fly.  My dad and I scratch built it as my 2nd plane, after my trainer.  Still fly it on an old supertiger 60 blue head!  Its actually my last remaining nitro bird, everything else is gas, turbine, or electric, but the Miss Texas is so much classic RC that I am hesitant to convert it to electric, though I have considered it severl times, just cant bring myself to do it..

Gah!  Leave it alone!  Keep one as a throwback to your early days!  My first plane was a Sig Kadet Mk2, which I crashed and rebuilt twice before getting an instructor.  Then I learned on that plane.  I eventually scrapped it, in favor of something sexier.  I kind of wish I still had it.

The LT40 is a plane I built as a club trainer a few years later.  I decided to hang on to it and keep it flying as long as possible.  Going to have to recover it soon, not much but strips of packing tape keeping the covering on right now.

Exactly why I cant bring myself to convert it....The whole reminder of the earlier days, and my childhood etc.....it needs recovered as well, going to strip it this winter and redo it....

the cool thing is a few years ago, my dad built another Miss Texas for himself, covered it differently and thres an FS91 on it, but its neat to have mine an dhis up flying at the same time :)

Try the Syma S107: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/8499000606.  It's a $20 toy yet it is amazingly stable and controllable. My wife bought me a different chopper for Christmas and it was fun but very unstable and hard to fly.  The Syma is well built and it was shocking how stable it was.  Sure it's just a toy but for $20 it's a load of fun.  (True, you can only fly indoors; or outdoors at dawn or dusk if there is no wind.)
I have the SO32. Just a bigger version of the 107. Indoor only or very light wind. My 3 year old running through the house is enough to throw it off.
