Allright, after reading this thread and watching this clip I'm gunna go buy Track IR and force myself to learn something new.  Which one should I buy, and get ready for me to ask the same questions all over again on how to set it up.

I like the track Ir 5 (the latest and greatest)
I like the vector clip(the one that clips to a hat or visor) better than the Track clip (that sits on your head set) i have had both, but its Personal preference.

Go here  http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/products/trackir5/

Vextor clip..
http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/02-products/product-Vector-PRO.html
Hope that helps..

You will find once you get used to track Ir., you will more able to compete and be enjoying yourself more in the Short Icon or no icon events that we are starting to see more of In special events Like FSO etc.. Track Ir will expand your horizons in regard to flight simming opportunity's it will also unchain you from the hat switch limitations and give you more free buttons to boot..  At least it did for me. You will see..

I have a new Track IR but I don't like it, it makes me sick to my stomach after a short time, it is as if you were looking around with your head in a fish bowl. It reminds me of the digital pictures I've seen of cockpits, where a fixed camera  system takes hundreds of photographs of a fixed area, puts them all together so you can view them as one continuous image. It isn't natural and I think it looks terrible. I'd rather see VR headsets become more mainstream but before that happens the cost needs to come lower and the available resolutions need to increase. Having a stop gap device like the Track IR where your head turn to in game movement isn't 1:1 isn't intuitive.

Until then, I have the same hat switch set up as I had on my old analog CH Prothrottle and it has served me fine.

edit: I will not take part in any event (again) that has no icons. The resolution of the MkI eyeball is much greater than any computer could reproduce.

edit2: If some kind of compromise is found (perhaps a red dot under enemy aircraft instead of a huge icon), I'd reconsider taking part.

I don't understand what you're describing about the fisheye view and all that.  Track IR does absolutely nothing to cause that.  Looking to your right yields the same type of view as pressing the right hat switch would.  It does take a little getting used to as far as your head movement being amplified but that's necessary, otherwise you'd really have to look behind you and you wouldn't be able to see the screen!

But with that being said TrackIR isn't for everyone.  If you don't like it then you don't like it!

It's up to you.  I have TIR4 (using TIR5 software) and have nothing bad to say about it.  I've heard TIR5 works better and is more smooth and all that but it's hard for me to imagine an improvement over my TIR4.  If you want the best then by all means go for the TIR5.  If you want to save a little money then go for TIR4.  They have a pretty good deal on it with the clip.

If you use a headset then the proclip IMO is a better option.  Since the proclip produces its own light (instead of reflecting light emitted from the receiver) you can increase its threshold which reduces any background light interference.  I also think it improves precision quite a bit.  However if you do not use a headset then the included baseball cap clip should work fine for you - just make sure there are no light sources behind you it might pick up.

The first time I used TrackIR I got dizzy and fell over.  This happened every day for about a week until I got used to it.  It is a weird sensation barely turning your head and the camera moving 180 degrees, but now that I am used to it, I cant fly without it.

If I were you, I would give it another go, you never know maybe it will be easier the second time around.  :aok

Del I experience that in vehicles and when I'm making movies.  I think it has something to do with where my eye is focusing when I'm using it.  As others have said keep trying till you get used to it.

Del,

Your motion sick from it.
Happens to me in FPS's all the time. The orig Tribes would do it to me all the time. The testing Sim's at Boeing used to get me all goofy until my mind got the feel of it.
Our mind is telling us that we should be feeling something in relation to what our eyes are telling us is taking place.

Most times this goes away like getting your sea legs. Not always thou as some people never get sea legs.

Is it me or does Track Ir seem FAR smoother since this new patch.

Track IR is almost a requirement for dogfighting, hat switches simply limit your views to much to keep up. I seen Track IR v5 for around $110 on sale with free shipping, I certainly am going to get it in a week or so.

I haven't noticed a difference, but I'm just wondering- depending how TiR is set up, it can have a profile for individual programs.  Is it possible you had one defined for AH, and since the new install, it isn't using the one you had defined for AH, and instead is using your default profile or somesuch?

I only use one profile, and it's set as my default, and I noticed no difference.  Just wondering if the above is the case with yours?  In any case, glad it's working better with you.

Another possibility is, depending how hard your system was working with the previous version, depending on what graphical stuff you've got turned on/off with the new version might impact your system's ability to work with TiR for the better if your system isn't working as hard.  They said there was some stuff in the new version that might improve performances in some cases.

took me no time at all to get the hang of TrackIR 5 and now hat switches just feel wrong...

it's just so much easier to keep track of multiple cons, and way more intuitive and natural feeling when dogfighting. plus i find it improves my aim in some indefinable way :headscratch:
Did you see my dad on dogfights yet?
I'll be seeing you face to face possibly next month.
