they did that in Air Warrior years ago. players who were rude and poor sports got swarmed, and stopped playing, and complained a great deal. it was more of a hunt fest when a known player on the other team would show up. you would stop what you were doing, grab a pony and go after them..which would lessen the game play for them.

You could see all friendly and enemy names in Fighter Ace MA arenas.

It did cause a lot of hunting and whatnot, but in the end I thought it was a good thing.

I like not knowing, so I can learn who it is via the fight. If I fight the same people enough I know who they are by their moves....or lack of them ...lol.
I would like no enemy icons at all, last week in the SEC was a total blast.
But all things being equal, leave it as it is.

My 2-cents:  If detailed plane info is say 500 distance atm (the distance that a P51 icon turns into a P51D or P51B), how about enemy names show up at within half that distance (like 200 or less)?

I think that would reduce it being negatively exploited, also add to people's request of knowing who other enemy AC are ina furball that didn't get the kill on you, and arguabley somewhat realistic in the sence that it has been documented in WWII that enemy pilots would pull alongside each other to either communicate or to identify their oponent down the details of the individual.

We can already see the potential side effects of this in KOTH. People will immediately target and pick the person they think is the biggest threat, regardless of position of aircraft, etc.
It will take out the unknown factor in a fight and make it more boring, imo.

isnt koth run with everyone on the same side IE names as default anyhow?

I would not mind having my name shown to the enemy in the MA. It would probably get me more fights.

Yes, which is why it is a good example. When a third competitor enters into an existing 1vs1, you can regularly see target selection based on "who" the targets are.

Sure it would.  A lot of good sticks would end up only in jets as the second they got spotted, folks would run.  They'd need a jet just to keep up and get a kill now and then.

And folks like myself would die even more as my name would scream 'easy kill!"

Nope! not accurate at all. As soon as someone like AkAk or Soulys get killed, the towered player types in "The 38 that killed me was..." then the Uber pilot gets a 5-7:1 fight. & still not easy to kill. I've been in a couple like that...was pure fun and the "Styx" didn't mine getting challenged and were good natured about it. We used to have that, but some marginal flyers became easy targets and spent their days in the tower...not much fun, or you get some vindictive "Children who get mad for being "Ho'd" and then kill the same guy 7-8 times bi-pass every other possible fight in the area. It is probably better this way. IMO  :salute

From a bomber mission perspective, I'd rather not have my name advertising my group to my opponents. Just the sizeable force of (sometimes escorted) B17's is enough to generate one hell of a fight. I prefer to not know the names of my opponents as well. The suspense & surprise is well worth it when either we get shot down or vise-versa.

Thats a big reason I hang around channel 200. Many people are on it, and even those who aren't usually have squadies who are.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.
