Trains supply the strats. When they were separate, each one had a supply train. Now that the strats are grouped together in the mega-city, only one train is used - with an enlarged resupply area to cover all the strats with that one train.

I believe much like convoys they have to be built into the terrain painstakingly by the map builder. I don't think they're only gone because we moved to the megastrat (I suspect you could find ways to place them, maybe resupply airfields with them? Something), but that they are very demanding to get perfect.

It's actually quite easy to place the "roads" and make them either train tracks or convoy roads.  It's just that historically (game-wise) truck convoys (and barges on water) supplied fields and trains supplied strats.  I'm not sure if HTC won't allow trains to supply fields, or the map-makers just don't use them.

This is not correct, each factory still has it's own train just like they always have.

Hmmm...

Thanks for the clarification; good to know. I could have sworn I saw something along the lines of what I said.

It isn't that the old strat system was any better or worse than the new system, the big factor is that under the old system there were targets to hit that were not heavily defended and gave an opportunity for a neutral ground engagement to happen.  Under the new system, nothing but high bombers have a chance to hit the strats and more importantly the majority of the combat happens over an airfield or vbase which in turns encourages camping and vulching and hordes.

I think HTC needs to come up with a system in which to encourage combat out and away from the fields.  Give the players a target to fight over.  Sure, we have tank town on Trinity and a few other maps but there is nothing to gain per say from meeting there in the eyes of the score monkeys, base rollers, or "name in lights" guys.

That a big part of my old gameplay was missing.  I really miss being able to drive a GV half a sector to lay waste to a factory and to dodge the planes that tried to hit me along the way or at the factory once they knew I was there.

I also rarely fly bombers anymore.  I used to regularily take runs at the strats.  Ditto for attack planes.  I simply have no desire to go flatten fields.  Fields are supposed to spawn fights.  Factories interspersed among the map also produced fights of a different nature.  Those fights are gone.

I'd go as far as to say the current remote strat system actually encourages horde-play.  There's simply less options for the lesser skilled to get into and make a difference in the war effort.

Please please please HT, bring back the old strat system.  3/5 of my game went away not counting the reduced buff and GV hunting options.  Flying fighters and driving GV's is fun but a few more options would be much much better.

Otherwise...  :uhoh I'm leaving.  ;)

The strats effect on gameplay may not be enough to get folks to bomb it. How about doubling the bomber points for hitting strats as a way of encouraging folks to pork the strats instead of the fields?

I dont want to completly go back to the old strat system. BUT. I think there should be forward Depots that get supplied from the main factories to the front line. Then trains could bring that from the factories to the depots. Then convoys to the fields from the depots. IMHO. Also Shipping would be awesome too when we get subs.  ;)
Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.

So, there have been alot of threads  asking for  something like the old strat system. Now  would be  a good  time for some imput. Is it a pipe dream as  some have  stated or would you consider a change to the current system?

Well I liked the old strat system and miss it. You can't spawn into a strat in a GV now.

Put the forward factories or depots closer to the field and town have trains running through the town and to the depots and everything from bombing strats to field captures and GV fights suddenly becomes much more interesting.

I routinely drive tanks 2 sectors to hit enemy fields or cities as well as drive PT boats all the way up a river to deliver damage to the enemy HQ.

yes in 02-06 was the prime fun days before things changed too much in the game. new planes gvs are great, but changing where strats are and impacting how an nme can have a impact onn the factories is now limited to nil now. <S> fer understanding, yah old strats woul dbring back crybabies who get bomb****ed but it would be all their choice.
ty greens, i had forgotten, and now recall.  since i started, i've always been a toolshedding warwinner.  still am.  but before y'all get all excited about the old system consider these things: the airfield, vbase, port elements of troops/supplies, ord, radar, and fuel (this one doesn't much count anymore because it can only be porked to 75% when it used to be able to be porked to 25% (ah, those were the days :)).

There's the furballing good fight side to the equation.  Then there's the mega horders.  How would such changes affect them?  Then there's HTC's success as a business.  Happy customers and lots and lots of them is the name of the game.

I guess my point is there is more to any change than the stuff that would suit me best.  Which of course is a bummer.

But my heart and soul is with bald eagle.

An odd game have we: it's really games within a game.
