The IJN totally screwed the pooch in regards to the A7M.  They kept insisting Mitsubishi have Horikoshi work on updating the A6M which delayed the A7M.  Horikoshi told them it would not have the requested performance on the Nakajima Homare, but the IJN insisted that engine be used as the N1K was already using it and logistics would be easier if they shared the engine.  The A7M1 with the Homare engine failed, by a wide margin, to meet the performance requirements of the IJN so they requested it be redesigned to take the big Mitsubishi Ha-43 that Horikoshi had originally wanted to use.  All told the changing demands of the IJN probably delayed the introduction of the A7M by 12 to 18 months.

I would sure be up for a post-WWII arena. Put it to the test.

Not that low.  About 415 of them were made.  That is more than the P-47M, F4U-1C, C.205, Ta152, B.239, Ostwind or Whirbelwind.

I thought that # was the entire series.

Many more N1K1-J were built, about 1000 as I recall without looking it up.

Compare that to the 100 or so P-47Ms, 100 (or was it 200?) F4U-1Cs, 250ish C.205s, about 45 Ta152s, about 50 Ostwinds, less than 100 Wirbelwinds and less than 50 B.239s.  The Seafire Mk II and Me163, per the not entirely reliable wikipedia, would also be a bit lower production as 372 and 370 were built respectively.

As you can see, the N1K2-J does not exactly stand out for limited production in AH.  For some reason people single out the N1K2-J as being egregious for low production numbers.

Edit:  You bolded the 393 by Kawanishi, but if you added the other production listed for the N1K2-Ja per your data the total is 415.

The numbers I have always seen for the N1K2-J series is in the low 400s.  The Ta152H-1 number I recall most often seeing is 47.  Note also that the N1K2-J saw much more combat than did the Ta152 as it had an earlier entry into service and Japan fought on alone for five more months after Germany surrendered.

7 sounds about right.

How many did the N1K2-J have I wonder?  I'd be willing to bet it is more than 7.

I don't think it would be a good use of resources and if introduced in the MA would destroy MA, and if in another arena, would go down the same path as WW1.  Much rather see the main product developed - since it can use quite a few planes added - then another half complete arena like WW1.

The idea sounds fun, but a huge waste.

What I'd really like to see is folks learning to do more with less of a plane, then always wanting something just a bit more uber.  In terms of performance we've already got birds that hit the upper end of propeller driven fighters.  What you are asking for is just more of the same.

The last thing I hope HTC does is 1946.  If they are going to do something post WW2 then a Korea arena would make more sense to me.  At least there would be some history too it.  You could have your Twin Mustang, Sea Fury, Seafire 47 etc.  But you could also bet folks would spend the majority of their time in 86s or Mig 15s as they'd be the upper end performance birds in the arena.

You hit the nail on the head Guppy and there were only 130 P-47Ms produced~ thought go into LW and you would guess that half of all the 15,686 P-47s built were Ms.

Korean jets will be cool for uberness and late model f4u-s, A-1 sky raiders, A-26s, F7Fs, La9s and 11's can all play when that happens
