No Icon Main Arena

The only identification is a visual on the airframe looking for a bishop, knight, or rook symbol painted on the aircraft fuselage and wings.  GV's would also have the chess piece symbol painted on them as well.  CV's and all ships would have the chess piece painted on them as well.

No dot radar.  Only a dar bar for loose advanced warning.

It would be super hard for long range GV fights anyways.
I wouldn't know who to shoot at in my Flak 88 of terror.

If you want a no Icon Arena check out the Customs Arena, however main arena has icons for a reason - not everyone would appreciate the switch.

That's not the reason. Folks won't appreciate it because it simulates flying blind beyond the point of flight qualifications.

Even if, which is not remotely the case, the game provided the visual detail that reality does, such an environment would be much harder than the real deal as a German pilot encountering a Spitfire knew that it was British or American, not German without having to make out a roundel or a star.

The fact that the screen only provides a small fraction of the detail we see, assuming you aren't legally blind, with ease in reality this sounds like a wonderful method for HiTech to go out of business if he wants to.

the AVA has limited icons, try that. as for the mains, not a good idea.

Yes we do, as well as very very short icon range as well. I just wish that we could have more participation in that Arena. The fights are great, 8-10 times you will not be HO on 1st merge as well as not have to worry about 6 guys all trying to get a kill while you are in the middle of a 8 min 1-1 worthy of being either shot down or flying home knowing you just fought a great battle with someone! please, FLY AvA more often all!

was fun last time I was in the ava. except for one guy that we killed a zillion times then we got bored and went to the ma and he follows us there looking for revenge.  I thought it was the funniest thing.  there were 2 of us and 3 of them.  before then I asked to bomb the town with b29's so I could record for a film.  fighters stayed away when I had enough film we gave them the green light and came in blasting away it was fun.

basically it is a cool arena, it has its characters but overall it was fun.  I like the idea of if you ask politely people will let you get away with things that wont ever happen in the ma.  I would go there again for squad night.  waystin has one every couple of weeks or so.

as for no icon's in the ma, no fricking way in hell  :uhoh

Its best not to touch the MA that's a bread and butter arena. There are alternatives..

I like the idea of flying no icons and short icons its fun and extremely immersing. You will find that contrary to the opinions of some its actually not flying blind at all it simply takes a different skill set. Those that don't like no icons I find when questioned for the most part do not use track Ir. That's the key to no icon enjoyment. With out track Ir it its extra challenging. With track Ir  it makes flying no icons a dream and very possible.. 

I fly  no icons all the time and cant understand the argument that its flying blind. I suppose we are all at different point in the learning curve..

In any event if its no icons or short Icons you enjoy come give the Axis v allies arena a try we generally run icon ranges short below 3k. The maps are small the action is fast and the set ups pit Axis vs Allied aircraft in objective based missions.
