The Space Battleship Yamato and supporting fighters
« on: January 26, 2012, 07:16:38 AM »
My wish is for the Space Battleship Yamato with veritech fighters.

Specs:

General characteristics
Class   Yamato class battleship
Registry   None
Maximum speed   50 Space Knots
Fighters   Cosmo Tigers, Cosmo Zero, Cosmo Pulsar, Cosmo Pulsar Bomber
Auxiliary craft   Hospital and Medical shuttles
Armaments
6 Barrel Wave Motion Gun
Shock cannons
Pulse lasers
Missile silos
Defenses
Reflective shield
Bubble shield
Missle barrier shields
Propulsion   Wave Motion Engine
Mass   62,000t
Length   285.8m
Width   34.6m
Height   77.0m

It could augment the proposed Nuke with planet destroying capability.  Once the nukes are used, the Battleship could be called out by the losing country at the cost of the net of all players on that side's perks.  The wave motion gun can be fired only once, per up.  It could be rearmed future additions to the game like a space port.

Also, it could be modified to carry veritech fighters.  Which saw extensive service in our interstellar battles.

Specs:

General characteristics
Maximum speed   Mach 2.71 at 10,000 m
Mach 3.87 at 30,000+ m
Armaments   External GU-11 55 mm gunpod
1–4 Mauler RÖV-20 anti-aircraft laser cannons
Four pivoting hardpoints under the wings
Propulsion   2x Shinnakasu Heavy Industry/P&W/Roice FF-2001 thermonuclear reaction turbine engines[1]
Power   11,500 kgf /650 MW each
Mass   13,250 kg (empty)
Length   14.23 m (fighter mode)
11.3 m (GERWALK mode)
4 m (battroid mode)
Width   14.78 m (fully extended)
8.25 m (swept)
7.3 m (battroid mode)
Height   3.84 m (fighter mode)
8.7 m (GERWALK mode)
12.68 m (battroid mode)

I think these could help answer the problem of the KT.  It would be real hard for the KT to move its turret fast enough to track and fire on one in Battroid mode.

I really thing this is a creative idea and one that certainly has never made it to the boards.  Thoughts?

Dammit, I missed that, good catch FLS.  I guess then, without computer technology then, it would have been near impossible to convert from flight to guardian mode without spinning out of control.  Shucks.

Holy crap! I remember that cartoon from way back when, must have been 1980 or so. Not sure what the story line was but every episode they would engage an enemy space battleship and launch their fighters for a sweep or Alpha Raid. The fighters were a cross of the F-16 and the X-wing fighter.

Awesome! Brings back memories of getting up early to watch just before the bus came for school. I think early Japanese animation as the lip-sync was pretty bad into English. If you have a link to an online episode or something please send.

I was thinking circa 1977-1980 myself.  What a great cartoon.  They've recently updated the cartoon w/ new graphics, etc, and iirc even made a movie about it.  What a classis cartoon and storyline.

Too bad %99.9 of the Japanese have no clue what the real Yamato was, in fact %99.9 have no clue what happened between Dec 7, 1941 and Aug 6-9, 1945.  Seriously.

Thanks...pretty serious Cold War theme to this. Had no idea, but I was a kid. Reminds me of Reagan wishing there was an out of world threat that would unite the world against a common foe, instead of battling each other. He only said it once. Maybe it was a promo for this?

Now you're being silly. Battleships don't fly through space in squadrons.

Was also known as "Starblazers". Loved that one. Those pesky Gamelons would think they had the drop on the Yamato and then she'd whip out a can of wave motion gun on their bedonkadonks! Yeah! Say hello to my little friend!
