When I first started playing I ran with Rolling Thunder, back in the day of the lanc NOE raids. You send your minions out early to destroy the dar vh and ords at nearby fields then pow pow. I think on one Falcon23 mission we dropped three fields in a row with the same group of resources. Thats how easy a capture used to be and how many people would get in on the missions.
Fast forward a few years and now I just like putting around in a fighter and being challenged by a fun fight. That may be the transition folks go through. I personally find no challenge in having such huge odds in your favor. I like going to an undefended base and starting on it by myself, because sooner rather than later, three will up to defend it, then a nice isolated fight happens. That, then flying as a squad senior member and pick guys off the tail of minions and rack up kills because the minions don't know enough about ACM because your squad does no ACM training. Probably for just that reason.
It is a shame that the satisfaction of seeing a base captured and scoring a few picks/vulches/camps satisfies some folks more than having a meeting engagement on even odds and out thinking your opponent to victory.
Where are random spawn points within a one mile circle? When are the spawn points coming off the clipboard? When is Radar going back up to 500ft? Hypocritically the community by asking for the dar drop, inadvertently created the circumstances for mega raids. So, which was worse, surprise little NOE or 40 plane raid? When are the best aircraft for these raids going to be lightly perked? If predominance of kills in the game are limited to three airframes, why are they not perked one point? When is ENY going to be local? When are we going to have a reason to satisfy our inner score potato to fly all of the way to the strats, instead of the clowns flying around bombing town centers? Why do we have a B29 if not for the destruction of enemy strategic resources? When is field ack going to be dialed back up to the way it used to be, a death blossom? When when when.....
I would be willing to bet a years subscription that HTC has had some pretty interesting staff meetings talking about all of the things you guys bring up and they think through 4 or 5 layers to see what the end effect of that will be. This time last year I did not see 5-600 folks on at a time, it was a bit lower. Something is working for them, my guess is by design.
So, to all of you who are offended, just as I am, by the mega-horde, have a sip of scotch, up away from the action and pick a fight. The guys who really want that, and are worth fighting, will quickly migrate to that rather than fly along with a horde.
