Seems to be a rare sight these days...
« on: April 11, 2012, 08:59:22 AM »
Not just a gaggle of noe bombers... but a formation fighting it's way to the factories at high altitude:

The Dickweed Heavy Bomber Group on the way to the target.

I read on country channel that going up that high to face them is a "waste of man power". Well, this game is nothing but a waste of lifetime in the first place!  :P

I've heard over and over that bombing strats is a "waste of man power" too... but regardless of its actual effect, it's a ton of fun in my book... and without "manpower wasters" coming up to stop us, it'd be much less enjoyable =)

If people knew what bombing the repercussions for bombing the strats was, they may think differently.   ;)

Last tour, I did my best bombing run against a strategic industrial complex.  In a flight of B29's loaded with the 40/500 lb bombs.  I damaged the city down to %51 and the ammo factory to %58.  I think I made a total of 8 passes at 23,000 ft.  Only 1 enemy fighter came up to play and it didnt last very long.   ;)

Most people do not know that the city is the turn key.  Damage that and the damage to the factories actually take hold for an extended period of time.  In turn, that extends the standard repair time at the bases thanks to the resupply convoys being less effective.   :aok

What resupplies the city in the center of the strats?........or do they just regenerate at a set pace?

Our squad and a few other fellow Knights seen a large DAR bar last month and it was the same squad flying to the strats, needless to say none of them made it but it made for a very memorable sortie for all involved  :aok  just took forever to climb to their altitude and find them but it was alot of fun.

Nothing. I tested that some time ago in MW, and later in an offline arena with MA settings again. You can resupply the guns in the city, but the actual city squares are set to 6 hours  :old:

= no effect whatsoever on down times ...

it is generally a waste of resources to do a strat run, although worth doing just for fun. its a shame the player hours/effect is so much lower than tactical bombing.

reinstate the zones! :aok

needless to say none of them made it but it made for a very memorable sortie for all involved

This time the main body made it, and some even got back and (if I'm not completely mistaken) landed a number of kills.

At the end of my 90 minute sortie, I was following a box of 17's on their descent towards their base when hostile fighters showed up with the clear intention of protecting them on their approach. All this at 20k still. They were successfull, while not being able to shoot me down they prevented me from doing some final attacks. Great fun... and I finally went to bed at 6:30 AM  :uhoh

Not generally objecting that, but a huge reason for the "waste of resources" is the way players do attack them...
No matter if single raider or mission, you almost invariably see them dropping their bombs randomly on factories. If you think that it takes only 2 B-29 sorties to totally smash the city...

Even the single raiders doing it for "fun" only could contribute by dropping city squares until there's nothing more to drop...

I miss flying the Box formations to Strats with the 484'th and would gladly join any squad that wanted to make a run. I used to like refinerys the best.

Keeping the box within 600 yrds, making life Hell for the Luftwaffe, and seeing a beautiful bomb pattern is pleasure enough. No matter how it impacts the game.

Used to make strat runs alone when I saw a certain player on the other side. While I almost never made it back you never grow making milk runs.

Whether in a bomber, a group of bombers, some escort, and an intercepting enemy, this is always a fun scenario.

Waste of manpower?  No way.  Knocking down strats helps in keeping things down for longer periods of time when porking a base or deacking a town, etc...  Yes, the strats self generate or come up faster with Goon field supps.

I enjoy these missions on either side (bombing or intercepting).

Sometimes, getting to altitude whether intercepting or bombing and escorting, is a chess match.  Then, when close, setting up for a pass is a game of wits and strategery...

Always fun to see large groups with escorts and also large groups of interceptors.
