If all your hits and receiving hits is displayed in the buffer as well as the summary of hits at the end of the sortie, all of the information would be contained within the film.

There would be no reason for a separate logging.

They are still much smaller than any film or even a picture. And you could make auto-logging an option.

Creating a temorary log only for the last sortie would render it almost useless. In a heated battle I simply don't have the time for the alt-tab copy'n'paste alt -tab routine between sorties.

Or how about directories for each day if auto-loggign were eneabled.  IE:

Aces High/User Data/Logs/AARs/
05092012/
05102012/
05142012/
06162012/
06172012/

Edit: I can see Luche now already making plans and arangements for a huge cloud server somewhere where as many of us players as possible can upload all our logs for his ultimate parsing pleasure. :lol

Edit2: Which, thinking about my earlier edit, maybe adding a line identifying an individual player/account that's being logged might be useful down the road.... how would such a thing work in offline mode though, where one doesnt log into their account prior to joining an offline arena?

I see no point in having unless they are linked to a film.  that way you wont have to see all 3 hours of it.  it will tell you that 35 min into it you got an assist or a kill or whatever.  seriously action reports after every flight are kindda useless unless you have the film that goes along with it.  what are you gonna do save every single one of them and show them to your bff?

to me, they would be as "useless" as my own kill statistics. And yes, I'd save and use every single one.

so you will inconvenience 99.9% of the players who dont really care about it so you can have yours?  about 99% of the people dont really care what the statistics was last tour or the one before.  you like our pie, good for you, most couldnt care less.  about the only use i see is in the film and that is just so I dont have to see the full film to where i got the kill.

How will my ability to save and look at my flight logs be an inconvenience to other players? Is the abiltity to record your sorties an inconveniance too?

I'm with Lusche here Semp. What's the big inconvenience?  Score matters to some because it is just another challenge. When you can't find a good fight perhaps taking buffs up for the purpose of planning and executing a mission that maximized the points for a bomb drop is something to challenge yourself with. I sometimes fly to an isolated base in P-39 to see if I can conjure up a 1v1. If no one ups, I start taking out ack and other targets. It would be fun to see my score so I can figure out how many points I'm getting for various targets hit, and to use the results to optimize where I put my ammo for points. Not because I'm trying to win the tour attack trophy, but because it's something to do.  Also points are awarded for damage to an aircraft. So how much you damage it vs. just killing it can change the points awarded for a kill. IT would be interesting to know how many points were awarded for killing con1, con2, etc.

It's just an excellent idea. It would make it possible to score things anywhere including custom arenas.
Squads who keep stats for internal promotion and awards for their squad nights would find it very useful.

because either you look at them on the game and gotta close them before next time you up slowing us down,  or they get saved off line and take up a lot of disk space due to volume of flights we do a day.   That's why I would rather have them linked to a film or nothing at all.

as of right now you get stutters if you have too many films.   It may also cause problems if you save every summary that few people will bother to check.

Why would it affect your or anybody else's disk space when I would use the logging option? Does the film auto recording option clog up your disk too?

You can toggle auto save film on or off, and you have to confirm "save" if you want to keep them. Why couldn't toggle auto save AAR on and off with a "save" prompt work the same?

that works for me but a only option to save both if auto film is on,   would really hate to press two different boxes when upping in hurry.

I would say in that case, you would be able to turn off the auto save feature from the beginning as you can now and won't even have to use the AAR feature if you are in that much of a hurry, but I suppose I would be OK with it being tied to the film as well.
