New PC help.
« on: July 08, 2012, 02:54:27 PM »
Hey guys,

after talking to TomG I really think I need a new computer. How much do I need to spend to get a decent rig in the UK? Interested in playing Aces High and other flight sims.

I haven't got a budget as such but not a lot of spare cash just now,

any ideas?

Nate

What's your current set up? It might be cheaper to just update what you have.

Motherboard
Power supply
Video card
Processor
Ram

?

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Ah, is AH the only game you play? Or are there other games you would like to play on high settings as well?

Processor - Intel Pentium G860 Sandy Bridge 3.0GHz LGA 1155 65W - $90
RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) -$22
Motherboard - ASUS P8H77-V LE LGA 1155 Intel H77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX - $122
Power Supply - CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 V2 (CMPSU-430CXV2) 430W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS - $45
CD/DVD Drive - SONY Black 18X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA DVD-ROM Drive Model DDU1681S-0B - $17
Case - Rosewill BLACKHAWK Gaming ATX Mid Tower - $90

Pick your hard drive, however much you need. 1TB goes for $90.

You'll be getting a 550 Ti from Zack for your graphics card.

A copy of Windows 7 32 bit is $120 or so (you can find cheaper probably).
A monitor/keyboard/mouse is about $200 for a nice one.

So in total, $796 or 649 euros, for everything. If you already have a monitor or a copy of Windows 7, that's ~$300 off.

This'll run AH on high settings (not completely maxed, but high) with 60 fps. You'll pull off maybe 40-50 fps in RoF with mix of medium/high settings. Microsoft Flight Sim X will be maxed, DCS: A10 and P51D will be mix of medium and high most likely.

I strongly suggest you get windows 7 64 bit instead of 32.  and make sure you get at least a 600w power supply. 430w is on the low side.  and get everything wherever you live as the shipping costs will kill you.

You don't need 64 bit to play AH, I don't think he is a hard core gamer. 430W is fine for all the components (and it's Corsair so its also reliable) unless he plans on upgrading more in the future, then yes go for a higher PSU.

you dont need 64 bit, but if you run into a program that requires 64-bit, and you have 32-bit OS you're up a river without a paddle. I have seen some iffy things about Corsair recently. As semp said, 600 watt or more.

And where do you find a 1TB drive for $90?  :O

Nate, as your in the UK, check into Novatech (www.novatech.co.uk) - they have some decent stuff for not so much money. If you can afford even a basic machine from them, add in the card from zack (assuming you have a big enough psu) and you should be good to go. You dont have to buy one of their gaming machines (a lot of the time, your paying for more than you need).

Wurz (not in any way, shape or form affiliated to novatech, just used to use em in the UK before emigrating to the USA)
I'm the worst pilot ingame ya know!!!

It's all unrealistic crap requested by people who want pie in the sky actions performed without an understanding of how things work and who can't grasp reality.
