I was part of the actual FEBA (Forward Edge of the Battle Area) in South Korea when I was stationed at Taegu (K2) AFB.
We had some 51st TFW F-4's there that were tasked as 'first response' 'in the event of'
..our ORI's were the shortest I had ever been part of

Launch, combat turn, done.
We got weekly breifings on what they had vs what we could do 'in the event of'
The North Koreans were and are still so outclassed in every arena of warfare it is just silly to think of them engaging in hostile actions anywhere.
The major impression I got when I was there ..
..the US Forces were there to keep the South Koreans from wipiing the North Korean Government from the face of this Earth.
Even so .. listening to late nite radio traffic on our scanners ..
..a flight of South Korean F-4's lost one when they went ... umm ..
..sightseeing. Officially reported he hit a mountain in the dark.
They went up loaded and came back empty.
A Coastal Patrol boat went into Inchon Harbor and shot up the place one evening
..shortly after that KAL air liner was shot down.
..and so on.
The South Koreans make no bones about it..
..they are very much ready, willing, and able to do the deed anytime.
