Rip Rap is about 10 days old ..so far ...
..got aways to go to run a combat ship effectively in PvP

I joined a buncha guys who call themselves 'the sp00n'
..because they like to stir stuff up
They run PvP gate camp breaker raids, null sec fleet ops, this n that
..the majority are miners tho.
Over 100 players and pretty laid back
.. we setup a lo-sec mining op this Sunday that should be fun.
Apparantly they bought a solar system out at the end of nowhere to play in
..45 jumps to get to, ..and the last 20 or so are all red systems
(.3 or less security standings)
..got my jump clone setup nearby today..
..fun drive to get there, got wayy dead at one gate, never seen so many reds (hostile tagged bandits)
..ship and pod were dead before graphics caught up it seemed .. LOL.

What is the bbs system like for eve online?  Does it have a good set of docs for reading up on how the game works, and not just tutorials?  

I've been considering making the jump to eve from AH for a while now.  Financially, it's a joke, both prices are very good, it's just the time factor involved and I can only really invest time in one or the other.

The EVE forums are very helpful (unless you go to GD then you just get a ****ton of mass trolling ) if the forums cant help, google can, if google can't then message me in game and i can help o/ (Shamus O'Reilly)

My toon is now 3 days old. Still doing all the profession tutorials to see what I like. Didn't even know you could modify the stats of a character. Now I need to find what stats a fighter/explorer needs.

bozon a huge thing about EVE just so you know. There is no specific role for characters, just the amount of time and efficiency you wish to delve into a certain profession skillwise. a PVP character can easily be a miner/indie also. It all depends on how long you wanna take training.

As for PVP hit me up. My alliance is a huge PVP group. But we also understand and gladly take indie/miners also

EVE costs 15/mo
... I signed up for their 1 month deal for 10 and they let me have a Destroyer
..had to choose one of four they offered.
The destroyers are empire based ...may take longer to learn to fly one that isn't from your chars empire.

on planning a character:
There is a 3rd party app called EVEmon that is invaluable at planning a character out.
To the point that I am deleting Grayy Eagle and goin with Rip Rap as my main.


Read about a group of thugs callin themselves the 'New Order' ..
..they charge miners 10million a year to be allowed to mine in any high security area in the game.
They call it a 'license' and you must swear loyalty to them in your bio in game .. ROFL.
A protection racket ..LOL .. right out of Chicago in the '30's ..nothing new and will end up the same.

Very self-righteous bunch of thugs.
Of course they have nowhere near the numbers to actually enforce every high security zone in the game.
If I am lucky perhaps I will be skilled enough to be part of the fleet that hunts them for laffs

just a few edits mate. (.4) to .1 is lowsec 0.0 down to -1.0 is nullsec. nullsec is the only area where you can gain soverignty so they may be a renter alliance? though you said corp so im assuming they paid off lowsec locals to allow access.

Once you start getting into the big isk youll be having much more fun  when i made my first billion it just felt good! it made me laugh looking back thinking how much 10million used to seem to me. since then you get a new feel for the game. you also get a HUGE realization what isk means to a player also. Investments into larger ships make alot of headway. when my freighter alt first rode the lightning in a Nomad a huge tingling sensation went down my spine! Things like that just make EVE what it is i swear

It was a scary trip down, but I got my jump clone installed in a neighbor system owned by the alliance.. and looks like we will be doin mining ops in our system for awhile. 40 some-odd barges an such, battleship escorts, an all.

A warmup and fun was had by all:


All those lasers are mining lasers ..we cleaned out a few asteroid belts.
Char is comin up on 30 days .. on a good day I bring in about 50million just runnin my retriever ..12 runs or so burnin rocks

Man I love the toys .. soo many cool toys!

Finally got my Freddie Mercury lookalike toon to do some exploration. Found a good archaeological site filled with pirates. Unfortunately, I mounted Howitzers instead of autocannons on my ship and found out those things can hit **** even with almost no angular velocity. Took me forever to kite the rats. Next time I come with missiles. Those things never miss and I can happily kite the rats outside their range till they die. I also read someone suggesting to tank up and just take the damage white analyzing the containers, grab the loot, and warp away.

Might just have to try it out. Seems like ya'll are talking in some other language sometimes. I can see getting heavily involved.

Maybe fun entertainment for a 48 year old?
