Replace icons with glowing outline on tail

ive always thought a red dot above the nme and a green dot above friendlies would be better then the icons, once the plane gets say within 400 yards the icon disappears completely or just turns into very small icon like it is now IE with the plane type only though.....

That would take flying next to an AFK enemy plane to a whole new level.

I wasn't going to reply to this because I thought it was a stupid idea and that I would never use it... but I flew for a little while the other day with the icons set to "Friendly" mode.  The situational awareness I felt was unbelievable! I was actually hitting my target for a change because I wasn't paying attention to the range on the icons. Once I finally spotted a plane, I had to figure out what it was and keep track of it.

So to the original wish, I support adding a dot or an outline to the enemy planes just to keep the game as kind of an arcade type- not to hard but not to easy as well.

And yet, all the real-world tesitmonials from actual combat fighter pilots, airline pilots, air traffic controllers, states that without a doubt you can ID planes up to 10 miles with the naked eye and see individual lettering of words on their tail at rather far distances, and even basic physics itself, have proven that flying with no icons is about as logical as flying legally BLIND.

Icons fill a purpose that computer game displays cannot replicate, yet the human eye sees quite naturally.

 The problem is that you haven't dedicated your self to adapting to and have only logged limeted time flying in a no icon environment.

You have no true point of reference, other than your opinion.. that is not based from first hand experience...

Unlike others who have taken the time to adjust to two styles of play. Both equally fun once adapted to..

One must be willing to deal with the early frustration  and overcome that to truly enjoy a new experience.. Its that willingness that separates the can do folks from the can't do folks... Its an philosophy that goes beyond this sim ...Be the lil engine that could Krusty...

No icons is an aquired taste like the handfull of Icelanders who swear putrified shark is manna from heavan.

The majority of $14.95 paying customers keeping your tiny arena open don't like the constant uncertainty of having a con 100yds away and below them but, not being able to see the thing untill the tracers are killing them. Especialy in an arena where the sky, clouds and ground is usualy purposly setup to hide them that way. Even turning off icons in the MA during high noon makes seeing the cons problematic at best. Have fun with your putrified shark. I've heard the few people who like it realy like it.  Bon Appetit...............

Most customers are not looking for putrified shark in here. You should create a different sales pitch that dosen't insult your customers intellegence. Your delivery is trying to convince them they are less than you because putrified shark makes them nausious and barf. But, then manhood contests come in many weird venues. I once watched a spoiled milk drinking contest by two He-Men to win a $5 bet. BoooHya on you Raven. I guess you got bigger somethings than we do keeping putrified shark down. Yeppers,  Bon Appetit.

I lived at Wakkanai Japan on Hokkaido island where there were many small family fish processing sheds with open gut tubs that didn't get cleaned out for weeks at a time. Shark fins were a big business. Any shark fin.

Raven has found his thing. It's his $14.95 but, obviously not as happy as he thinks he could be with it. Insulting customers over how they choose to make use of their hard earned $14.95 is puerile at best, and at worse a sad reflection on himself as someone to be trusted in this forum to represent a different game experience. His game experience makes him a better "game man" for what nebulous reason???????

I wouldn't buy cow manure from him with his current sales pitch and I have a garden.

All I said was it rocks....  Then I was criticized and insulted for enjoying it.. Follow the tread......  I responded with the obvious and the facts... If that insults its a security issue on your part.
 
My point was simply don't knock someone because they like something different without expecting a responce or having at least some first hand experience on the subject..

 My position is and has always been that both styles of play are fun.

 I do not criticize folks for flying icons or do I think I'm better than those that fly icons because I fly icons too and enjoy it very much.

That said I see no harm in sharing my enjoyment of an alternative no icon style of play  and view it as narrow minded to criticize a person for it.
 I agree that No icons appeals to a hand full in this comunity but all the same some folks like it and like it allot.

 They should not be discriminated against for stating that they like something the masses don't.. . I was simply agreeing with the direction the original poster was leaning to.

Raven spent many years in IL2.

I flew IL2 for awhile and can confirm that the no icon at all game was very popular there. It kind of goes along with the more complex engine management stuff in IL2 etc. I don't really agree with them, but the guys I flew with there (mostly Euros) called Aces High an "arcade game."

Raven really likes the AH flight model and the content creation tools here, but wishes there was more of a market here for the kind of game he enjoyed in IL2.

IL2 46 is getting long in the tooth and Cliffs of Dover died in development so there really isn't much out there anymore for the guys who prefer the more realistic (seeming, at least) game.

Your sales pitch treats the customer as an ideot for not agreeing with you. AH customers vote quickly with their feet over their game preferences. They choose the MA's offering by the hundreds versus the small slice of the pie the AvA is. Just like a very small number of people in the world enjoy putrid icelandic shark for dinner. It's an aquired taste by an eclectic band of patrons. Power to them, to me it tastes like ammonia dipped in salt. Hows your mansion on the water in Miami from your sales job selling ice to eskimos?

Your sales pitch needs work. I've seen better in the last 11 years to get people into the CT\AvA. But, in all that time it's ever been a tiny slice of the pie based on the customer base.

Our con dot and silhouette graphics is not optimised towards No Icons becasue the game is played with icons. If this is so important to you. Stop insulting your potential customers and start seeing what if ever can be done by the HTC side of the house to optimise the dots and silhouettes towards no icon play. Maybe as a CM's option for a custom AvA style arena.

Otherwise it would seem you are more interested in being insulted, playing a victim, and enjoying a victim's self appointed piety to cry foul and don a richeous ire mantel. Thats still not going to change the smell or taste of icelandic putrid shark or channel more feet through the AvA with your current sales pitch. You have the numbers problem while using the same sales pitch year after year. Richeous ire dosen't sell seats to your game.
