That is very interesting.  I've seen one very similar to that but not is "real" time and it was for the PTO, not Ost Front.

Thanks for sharing.   :aok

Impressive, thanks.

It shows that the Russians were already making a comeback in 41 even though the situation seemed to be deteriorating.

The Russians never get the credit they truly deserve however.

I've just finished reading a book on the 1941 Kiev battle, which makes much the same point as ^.

All the same, entire armies encircled and annihilated (four armies alone at Kiev, almost the entire front), 3.5 million troops taken prisoner, it's hard to see the whole thing as anything other than a fiasco on the Russian side.

I thought the presentation was lacking. It was a good intro to the Great Patriotic war, but it wasn't enough for me.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

I liked the Graphic map presentation..

The victory at Kiev also supplied the German Army with massive quantities of equipment they used thru out the war.. The 76.2mm Dual purpose Field gun was a good example.. They captured 10's of Thousands of them, and mountains of ammo.. Used them on all fronts, served along side the PAK40 till the end of the war..

The Marder II and III, were actually more likely to utilize the Russian gun, than a PAK40..

The fact that the Soviets survived the losses at Minsk, Kiev, and Smolensk, is incredible.. The path to Moskow was wide open.. And Zhukov and the Armies of the east, hadn't been moved yet.. Only The delaying actions of the slaughtered Workers Battalions, that were thrown into the gap, and General Winter, saved them..

More like the Germans broke themselves on Russia. The sacrifices the Russians made were staggering, and the scale of the war in the east makes the western front look like a minor skirmish. In one single battle the Russians and Germans would take more casualties than the U.S. did during the whole war; pretty amazing. The brutality of the war was also almost unbelievable and perhaps only matched by the savage amphibious warfare fought in the Pacific "island-hopping campaign".

If my memory serves me, in WW2, more than 50% of the German ammo was fired into the air, mostly over their own country.
Puts a little comlication into the equation of "minor skirmish"
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)
