http://www.mediafire.com/download/4q15fd3sg5ubn6c/soloacesortie.ahfI flew out all alone in my trusty Spitfire to a big red dar bar near a vBase.
on my way there I saw a high F4U off my right wing, and he began to make BnZ passes at me. I avoided them all, trying my best to perform a reversal. I eventually ended up behind him, but not close enough for a firing solution. I chased him into the combat zone, but he stayed 1k out and I eventually gave up on chasing him. However, he then discovered some balls and turned back into me to fight, probably trusting that all of his friendly planes in the area would clear his six if neeeded, or that I would not want to lose my E to turn with him and thus leave myself vulnerable to his friendlies.
but by this point I just wanted to get a kill on the timid F4U pilot, so I didn't care about his countrymen and turned with him. I shot him down in short order and then found myself engaged with all of his buddies. At first, if I recall correctly, there was a Mossie, N1K, and P51 all trying to get me. At one point the Mossie broke off, and towards the end an ME-410 joined the fight.
I started with a very slight E advantage over my some of my opponents, so I used climbing turns to keep out of the guns of the Mossie and P51. The N1K was pretty much co-alt with me, so when he made a pass I manuevred to line him up with my 3-5 line in order to attempt the same kind of reveral as I had been using earlier against the F4U. This enable me to dodge his attack without giving him my 6, but I couldn't keep up a proper fight with him while still dodging the other planes that were out for my blood, so after avoiding a couple more shots I seized an opportunity to dive down behind the P51.
My first burst oiled him, and my second took off his left wing neatly. However I had made myself a perfect target for the N1K, and immediately after downing the P51 I turned hard to get out of his guns and cause an overshoot, and then rolled back into him. I had a perfect opportunity for a shot for a second as we crossed, and either by luck or good judgement I managed to take off his tail.
The Mossie had turned tail and fled by this point, and with the pressure somewhat off I built up a bit of E and finished off the ME-410 at my leisure, taking my time and making safe attacks to avoid the fire from his rear guns.
While RTBing with my 4 kills another high F4U decided to go for me. But by this point I was feeling invincible, and I reversed him and latched onto his 6 after his first pass. With me 600 out, but not closing, he nevertheless dived down towards my home airfield to gain some separation. As I was trying to decide whether I could land safely, or if I would need to deal with him first, he made the decision for me by pulling up again (possibly avoiding ack fire or one of my countrymen near the field) and going vert right in front of me. I pulled my nose up to follow, waited till I had perfect lead for a shot, and blew him apart.
I then landed and saved the film, feeling EXTREMELY angry that I hadn't turned on my FRAPS recording at the start of the sortie. As I use TrackIR, the AHfilm recording doesn't really do justice to the great bit of action we had out by that vbase.
