Thanks man, all true to the best of my memory! Like I said it was many many months ago, but none the less it's just one of those moments that makes you go 'damn...this game is awesome'

I rarely do FSOs but did one over Europe. Upped a 109 with gondolas, not sure which model. When the smoke cleared I landed 10 kills, the last two being 2 PonyDs after a 2v1 on the deck. No video but a log record.

Also, once tool'n around in a Dora when a PonyD upped from a field. Target rich environment.

I can think of many, but the one that will always stand out, was back in an old Airwarrior Scenario.  It was the first time 'it' happened.  All the history and imagination collided with what the game could provide and in my mind I 'was there'.  The cockpit surrounded me.  Remember this was pre-VOX days too so it was all typing, yet the words were in the headphones so to speak.

I was GL of a Spitfire Squadron, 602 "City of Glasgow" in Spit IXs.  It was the Longbow Scenario and we were the last bunch of fighters into France to cover the withdrawal of RAF B-25s and USAAF Jugs.  Del was flying my wing.  He was +Dizy then.  We crossed in and started getting calls for help and reports of high 109s and 190s.  Flashes of red passed over the top and in the mix up my wing and I got separated from the rest of the squadron.  We slid down the coast and spotted a smoking 25 just crossing the beach.  He was clear when we 'heard' a Jug driver calling that he was in trouble.  Anyone who flew the AW Jug remembers what a dog it was.  We finally spotted the Jug and he was mixed in with a 109G and clearly in trouble.  He was going away from us and I kept telling him to break and come back our way so we could clear him.  After what seemed forever he did and I got a snap shot off at the 109 and thought I saw pieces fly.  Of course Del was right there and powdered the guy while the Jug ran for home.

We then headed back up the coast and spotted high dots which turned out to be a mix of 109s and 190s.  Not a good spot to be below them.  They came down and it was the start of a brawl where I finally got a 190.  We were outnumbered though and it didn't look good.  Then I spotted a flight of four dots up high.  It turned out to be a flight of 4 Spits from my group.  Two of the pilots were mir and Silat.  Down they came and we cleaned house before being the last fighters out of France and returning to base.

I suppose it doesn't sound all that exciting, but I'd never had it happen before where I got sucked into the game like that.  I've been chasing that experience ever since.  Thankfully it continues to happen now and then, generally in scenarios.  There is nothing like that feeling that you are in the plane and it's as close to real as the sim will allow.

Cool story.  First thing that comes to mind though is in the MA we fight Spitfires vs Spitfires and Jugs vs Jugs.  That alone takes away a lot for me... and makes the experience more gamey than it should be.  If the red guys could only fly the axis aeropane set, that would be much more interesting.

this sortie:

http://www.mediafire.com/download/4q15fd3sg5ubn6c/soloacesortie.ahf

I flew out all alone in my trusty Spitfire to a big red dar bar near a vBase.

on my way there I saw a high F4U off my right wing, and he began to make BnZ passes at me. I avoided them all, trying my best to perform a reversal. I eventually ended up behind him, but not close enough for a firing solution. I chased him into the combat zone, but he stayed 1k out and I eventually gave up on chasing him. However, he then discovered some balls and turned back into me to fight, probably trusting that all of his friendly planes in the area would clear his six if neeeded, or that I would not want to lose my E to turn with him and thus leave myself vulnerable to his friendlies.

but by this point I just wanted to get a kill on the timid F4U pilot, so I didn't care about his countrymen and turned with him. I shot him down in short order and then found myself engaged with all of his buddies. At first, if I recall correctly, there was a Mossie, N1K, and P51 all trying to get me. At one point the Mossie broke off, and towards the end an ME-410 joined the fight.

I started with a very slight E advantage over my some of my opponents, so I used climbing turns to keep out of the guns of the Mossie and P51. The N1K was pretty much co-alt with me, so when he made a pass I manuevred to line him up with my 3-5 line in order to attempt the same kind of reveral as I had been using earlier against the F4U. This enable me to dodge his attack without giving him my 6, but I couldn't keep up a proper fight with him while still dodging the other planes that were out for my blood, so after avoiding a couple more shots I seized an opportunity to dive down behind the P51.

My first burst oiled him, and my second took off his left wing neatly. However I had made myself a perfect target for the N1K, and immediately after downing the P51 I turned hard to get out of his guns and cause an overshoot, and then rolled back into him. I had a perfect opportunity for a shot for a second as we crossed, and either by luck or good judgement I managed to take off his tail.

The Mossie had turned tail and fled by this point, and with the pressure somewhat off I built up a bit of E and finished off the ME-410 at my leisure, taking my time and making safe attacks to avoid the fire from his rear guns.

While RTBing with my 4 kills another high F4U decided to go for me. But by this point I was feeling invincible, and I reversed him and latched onto his 6 after his first pass. With me 600 out, but not closing, he nevertheless dived down towards my home airfield to gain some separation. As I was trying to decide whether I could land safely, or if I would need to deal with him first, he made the decision for me by pulling up again (possibly avoiding ack fire or one of my countrymen near the field) and going vert right in front of me. I pulled my nose up to follow, waited till I had perfect lead for a shot, and blew him apart.

I then landed and saved the film, feeling EXTREMELY angry that I hadn't turned on my FRAPS recording at the start of the sortie. As I use TrackIR, the AHfilm recording doesn't really do justice to the great bit of action we had out by that vbase.

Back when I was still a spit dweeb, I had gone out for an interception with a spit 8 only to find out he ran home when the 3 other guys had shown up. So I wander around for a bit looking for something to shoot but come up empty. I eventually decide that I should just go elsewhere and look for a fight.

As I approach the base I notice that an LA has just porked the dar and ords. I fly right for him and he notices me at about 600 out and turns into me. We pass and start a turn fight that ends up lasting 5 minutes (felt like hours). He shot off one of my elevators near the start of the fight so we were on roughly equal grounds. We each got a few pings on each other, but were never able to pull in on each others six. The fight suddenly ends when a friendly pony comes in to view, the LA7 breaks and makes a bee line for the deck. I've never seen a plane grab speed that fast in my life. The pony shoots him down but I still get the kill. We salute and I go back to base to land.

The poetic part is that he got his revenge. I wrecked my spit landing (still on tarmac) but didn't tower because I was about to pee myself (couldn't go during the fight). I come back to see that he had killed me while I was sitting on the runway.

Best for me were 1 on 1s starting from at least 15k and going up and down using the entire air column. Usually against a stick a little better then I while he is flying a little lesser air plane. Ive had some beauts in a Yak-9U against a P-47. Im not sure I'd call a P-47 "lesser" but for some reason those two stack up well against each other. Another was enemy in a P-51 and me in a Spit-14.

Anyway thats the game at its best. The various match ups between air planes. It used to be the best 1 on 1s were during the day when the best Pilots were on. I havnt found much of that since I came back.

It was a frame of a scenario in AW, I don't remember exactly but I think it was the Big Week scenario. I was flying a fw190 and there was a formation of something like 80 B17s. The bomber stream just kept coming and coming. It was awesome in the literal and unexagerated sense of the word.

Most memorable sortie, when I was with the 332nd Vikings many years ago. This is what happens when you fly with a bunch of drunken Norwegians, Swedes, Brits and Italians...

FSO, our orders were to roll heavy P47s, dump the ordnance and go fighter sweep. Then land, rearm and go JABO on what ever ground targets are left. Frame starts, we all spawn (12 of us I think). Then suddenly 3 seconds into the frame - BANG! and all of us are back in the tower. One drunken Viking has released a rocket on the runway, killing the entire squadron...

Spawn again, hoping no one will notice (since it was only a couple seconds into the frame). This time everyone keeps their itchy figers AWAY from the triggers and we manage to get airborne. Now dump the ordnance - and half the Vikings are back in the tower again killed by the blasts and falling bombs of the Vikings flying a few meters above them... they respawned and we had a drunken happy good time with only minor friendly fire incidents involving the 0.5s.

Of course we won the frame, but after the logs were checked there was a bit of a riot because the 332nd vikings records showed a huge number of kills and respawns just seconds into the frame :) Some people demanded that the squadron will not drink and fly anymore, but we all had a note from the doctor that said the alcohol was for medicinal use.

Mosquito VI - twice the spitfire, four times the ENY.

The first time i landed more then 2 kills. I was in a Brewster  just starting to learn i like to turn fight. Cruising the coast line at 10k. See one plane think why not. I go nose on and in seconds we are engaged. Flipping back and forth and the edge switching hands. In this hectic and being fairly new i did not notice it turned into a 2v1 then 3 v 1 but all were same plane i just thought man I'm so good i am always almost behind the guy. Luckily enough i shot one down. Heart races, two down,  get jittery, three down I'm going home sweating. 4th guy comes on, so me i think well fight or die. i fought took it to the deck landed my first snapshot kill and bugged out for home. To this day 3 tours later I'm unsure if i have landed more then 4 kills.  Man oh man it was it awesome just awesome.

Edited for a mistake. My grammar is sub par.

FSOs and Scenarios are by far the most memorable experiences in game. I remember one Friday landing my FM2 on the wrong end of the carrier, completely out of fuel and with less than a minute of time remaining.

The one I dont remember has to be the funniest though. We were assigned 110s, I fell asleep just before my squad engaged a group of 30-40 Spitfires and Hurricanes. Apparently they were yelling at me over teamspeak the entire to time wake up, but I never did. When I finally woke up nearly 2 hours later I had flown almost off the map, and had low fuel but otherwise was completely unscathed.  :D

Good times.

I have to say probably one of my best experiences in AH was actually this morning with Ernst21 and me both in 190A5s duking it out at less than tree top level we are pulling scissors like crazy little do we know that there is a hill coming up at the last minute I pull hard on the stick to miss a tree and I watch Ernst try to pull up as well but he couldn't so his 190 said c'mere tree I want to hug you all in all great fight man I can honestly say Ernst has come along way in his fighting abilities since we were both in the 20th FG back when BAR was around
