You know, you can play this game with a little courtesy, it's not hard to do.

Tonight, I see a V base blinking. We had lost a few V bases due to mass GV attacks, so I grabbed a heavy P-47D-30 and went to investigate. Upon arriving, I see a fellow Rook (Gavilan) rolling out to meet the incoming attack. He's nearly to the spawn area, about 4k from the base.

I dive down and look for the enemy GVs. I spot only one, a Panzer. I tell Gavilan where it is (hiding behind a knoll just in front of him) and stand off to watch the result. Gavilan rolls around the knoll and gets ambushed. Having given Gavilan his due opportunity, I split-s in and kill the Panzer.

My thoughts were these... Gavilan had taken a long time to get to the enemy. Plus, I didn't want to interfere in a 1v1 GV fight. Let 'em do their thing and take what's left, if anything.

There's an old saying, "a true measure of character is how people behave when they think no one is watching."

These days it could re-written to say, "a true measure of character is how people behave on the internet".

Now a days, the MA is not much different than an aerial version of Lord of the Flies.....

If it looks like a nice fight rather then a chase, then I check on range and stay above.
If the enemy is a Spit14 I dive down and kill it - no questions asked.

One exception is that I detest landing with a full ammo load. If this is one of those nights/maps when there are 300 people on, but absolutely no air war (get out of those friggin GVs!) god help the poor red that I find. I will fly through a gaggle of greenies to put all my 700 20mm rounds into him if he's the only red to be found within two sectors.
Mosquito VI - twice the spitfire, four times the ENY.

That's certainly true, but it does raise a key point.  Which is worse - Ruaml killing a plane that Dolby had called "dibs" on, or Dolby getting so ridiculously upset about it that he felt the need to come and post about it to the whole community?

I'd say the latter since this thread really contributes nothing and drags a lot of names through the mud.  It's a competitive game where people sometimes "steal" kills.  The solution to this isn't to whine and moan about it on the forums, but rather to learn to 1) kill faster so it doesn't happen as often, and 2) get over it quickly and realize it's been a part of online air combat sims since Air Warrior.

Dolby treads perilously close to classic Birdo territory here.  I wouldn't be surprised if Ruaml have him a hearty "WOOOO WOOOOO!!!"

Lev you would probably feel some degree of disgust too if that kept happening to you.  Would you play if the MA was nothing but kill stealing?  Somewhere on the curve between those two points is a threshold.  IOW yep latter is worse, but they're both bad.  Even if the bad's the sum of both ruaml's action and Dolby's reaction

For the most part, the arena is mostly nothing but kill stealing.  It has been since I started flying in Air Warrior back in '96.  Not everyone does it, of course, but it's always been rampant.  I decided to not get disgusted by it and focus instead on making it occur less often.  That meant choosing angles that got me closer to a target than everyone else, and learning how to shoot well enough that I could kill fast.  I guess you could say that the culture of kill stealing in games like AW/AH made me a better player.

Levi,
I find it humorous that kill stealing was a sport with high competition when I joined the BKs back in 2003.  Lazs promoted it and for the most part everyone in the squad had fun with it.

To be clear, the idea was to steal your squad mates kill; not other country men's.

I personally back off when asked and I ask the green guy if he needs help.

The only thing more satisfying than stealing a Drex kill was stealing a Stang kill.  Oh, the delicious tears.

I only get peeved when a teammate pours bullets into a plane either on fire or missing a wing to try to steal the kill.

My favorite part about that is it's coded not to work.

If you think you are having a 1v1 in the Main Arena, your SA has failed you.
