I have trouble on almost every map. And you can't just go test a map Arlo.  It happens in the heat of battle after playing on it for 4-6 hours. A flashing plane would work great. I'm sure my eye site is part of the issue, but I can't be the only player with this problem.  I wonder how well you could read the map with a black eye Arlo? :D    :rofl :rofl :rofl

Well, I dunno, BBP. I'm not one to get a black eye (at least not in the last thirty plus years) nor am I one to post later about how the game should be improved to help me see it with a black eye.

What I would recommend, however, is to not shrink your map and leave it up. Even if your plane marker/icon was flashing like a Las Vegas casino sign, knowing where it's at on your mini-map in relation to the mini-map terrain features, bases, enemy and targets may still be a chore after 4-6 hours. Being comfortable with hitting the ESC key to bring up your map as a moment's notice and having it enlarged enough to read may serve you better.  :D :salute

I would like to disagree with you BBP but i don't want to get beat up.  On the off chance that I can voice my opinion, you're being silly.

I fly with the map shrunk while flying so I can see the enemy approaching me. I may be engaged in combat and this helps while fighting. How many times have I been told to do this by the better players in the game? As I have pointed out several times in previous post ....... its not just knowing where my plane is necessarily, its being able to see it because it blends in. I'm only presenting this to help those of us who don't see it well.

Arlo, no need to reply. I get what your saying.

Actually, no.  I'm 58 and nearsighted.  Uncorrected I'm 420/20.  Corrected to 40/20.  Vision slowly degenerating because I have an eye disease "Retinitus pigmentosis".  This will be what finally takes away the game I love playing so much.  Any more questions sir ?

My deepest apologies for replying ... but .... do you happen to recall the CPIDs of some of them?

Hey buddy.  Just because I don't agree with you does not mean we can't be friends.  If you want something then it's up to you to do as you have, post a wish in the wish list.  I didn't say I don't want you to have it, I just don't agree that it is neccessary.  That "Dale" guy and his minions will ultimately give value to your wish and if they determine it has value then they most likely will make the changes you seek.

I do have one question for you though.  If your map is shrunk way down as you say then what information in it is of value?  The direction you are going?

I suspect the other players recommending this to him use it kinda like a mini-radar. Like other games where you can put up a semi-transparent HUD to track enemy you can't otherwise visually track. I suspect Dale and co. would be adverse to this. They made concession in live-time unit tracking on the map, as it is (for practical game-play). But if players are using the map shrunk down to be an 'SA' radar, I'd be recommending guns be locked on safety whenever the map is up.

I know that! Everyone knows that!  If you fighting on a corner or off center position it won't reopen where you were. Now you have to go find your position of where you where fighting.
And that's not my point or issue. Even if it's in the middle of the map after closing and opening, ITS STILL HARD TO SEE!  Its very often BLENDS into the color of the map. This is such a little issue. Thanks for the support guys.

KIMO. :cry
I thought I was being helpful. I'm very sorry  I made you cry.

Do you still have an issue with seeing the plane when you zoom the map in?  I have trouble when the map is way out, but once I zoom in, it's not an issue.

I have trouble seeing the plane when I shrink the map to make it where I can fly with it open. I find it very valuable to do so. You would be surprised how many times you save yourself from being blindsided with the map open.  About a 2 inch square. Its easy to see that red dot coming for you. But what I have trouble with is as you fly around your plane moves around the map. It can get over the City or most often over the numbers designating the area of the map sector. Or it can just get over a dark colored portion of the map.  I can still see the plane but not what direction its going in. So I can't tell if I'm flying at the Cons or away from them. Of course by the time you figure it out your surrounded by the MoFo's. I think I'm stating my problem with the plane a little more clearly this time. I apologize for not doing so in my first post about it.

Or, you know, you could check your six once in a while  :noid.

What I do is this: Leave map at full size, zoom in almost all the way, and close it. Every time I get a break, open the map up and scan it for incoming red blotches, which signal an STD... err, horde.

Now whoever told you to keep your map open is an idiot. Don't blindly follow advice because someone told you to do it. Try it, form your own opinion, do what works best for you. But even more importantly, don't reject other advice out of hand because it doesn't match up with the first thing you heard.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.
