Pintails are pretty cool.  Just about the same size as a Mutt, only a foot shorter and narrower.

Larry] Ellison paid 10 expert composite boatbuilders to fly from NZ 10 days ago.
He gave them each $250,000 to get on the plane and a guarantee of another $250,000 if they win. They effectively rebuilt the boat. They also installed a device that up until then was just being trialled.
Nothing to lose. It is an analogue dial that is connected to sensors that indicates the best foil positions for the current conditions. Speed, pressure force, aspect etc. all the guys on the boat need to do is to match the position of a matching dial pointer by using the hydraulic pressure pumps (handles) and match the two pointers up. Very fast adjustment for every condition.
Team NZ need to trial and adjust and see how the boat responds then go again. All trial and error.
Oracle have streamlined with stunning results with the rebuild.

It was declared legal, so USA won fair, I don't think our team choked at all. Our pockets weren't deep enough is all.

Doesn't matter how you look at it...it is a kiwi who has won the cup... five times in a row now.... only once for the kiwis... but hey....still a feat in itself....He is now even better, stats wise, than good ole Dennis the Menace..

seriously though..that was one of the most amazing comebacks...even if I question a few moves made by Team NZ...there were some blatantly stupid maneuvers (and some more subtle ones)  that a top class skipper (these guys are top top of their game) really doesn't make in my mind.... but not with standing.... that was an amazing effort by the US team....

Its been many years since I sailed. These new boats look like they are flying on hydra planes.

20 kts. plus.  Sometimes over 30 kts.  

I haven't seen much more than 10 kts. in my boat (as measured by GPS, anyhow) and that was in 15 kt. winds with ~ 500 pounds of rail meat, hiking WAY out.

You are correct, they are on hydra planes.

There was a Foiling  Moth at the race I was in on Saturday.  I always wanted to try sailing one of those.
