suppressors......you mean silencers? i think most states here allow them. but remember i'm in the PFRNJ. we own firearms here at our own risk. even if it's legal, there still may be a chance of visiting the greybar hotel, lololol.

i can't have a flash hider, but i can have a muzzle brake though......

Suppressors, not silencers. And they sound nothing like in the movies. If the rounds are subsonic then you hear two things: the click of the firing mechanism, and the thud of the rounds impact. If the rounds are subsonic then you also hear the supersonic crack as the round travels down range.

Suppressors help save your ears, they also help accuracy (balance the barrel a bit, also remove turbulence from the muzzle area). When hunting game have trouble identifying which direction you are (they still hear the supersonic crack) - sometimes leaving you open for multiple shots (if you are shooting more than one animal, I've take down 8 feral goats in one quick session).

And my baby (Howa 243, Nikon scope, DPT Suppressor) - have heart shot a yearling fallow deer at 350m (that's 382 yards for you old worlders):

Very nice. My father has a Howa in .223 that he uses for small game and big birds like grouse, using subsonic ammo. He's very happy with it. Do you plan on camoing the stock as well?

Here's one of my hunting rifles. A standard Remington 700 AAC-SD w Timney trigger, custom adapted (my own handwork, + Devcon bedding) Bell & Carlson Light Tactical stock for AI mag bottom metal. Bushnell 6-24x50 G2DMR reticle and for quick close range shots (wild boars) a Burris FastFire III 3 MOA dot at 45 degree angle. Since this was taken it has been Duracoated with their Tactical Dark Earth. I get sub MOA groups without too much hassle with factory ammo. Oh and the muzzlebrake is a JP, works well but yes it's loud! No suppressor yet but the advantages are obvious so maybe later. I really like the 20" barrel and magazine handling is just the way it's supposed to be as I was once trained to operate a rifle. Old habits die hard.

Impressive. How much does it weigh?

Looks too military for over here; the Law would frown upon it for sure.

Under 6 kg with a 5 rd mag 308, that is light for a system comparable to what the GIs use. Am very pleased with how the scope snugly hugs the barrel, it sits on a 20 MOA Badger Ord rail. The configuration is not cheap, but makes for a great precision rifle for all distances and once you get used to that reddot practical accurate fire is as fast as a semi 308 I'd argue, accuracy is everything imo. When switching to the reddot I tilt the rifle 45 deg and take aim with the left eye, right eye looking straight over the barrel... makes for very intuitive fast and accurate shooting at close range. The rifle is still heavy so it doesn't exactly swing like a carbine, everything is a compromise and so is this rifle. A pure hunting rifle can easily be half the weight, I just wanted something more than that.

How much weight is that K98 of yours?

Around 3kg with the suppressor and scope. Your rifle would be fun on a range, but I wouldn't like lugging it around in the mountains here. :)

Haters gonna hate.

If push came to shove, I would bet my life on each of my 5 Chi-Com SKS rifles and my MAK-90 and my Type 53 (M44).

And... all my Chi-Coms have Chromed lined barrels, unlike your Yugo AKM (If it has a real Yugo barrel).

Picture is hard to tell... Aftermarket Muzzle brake on your Yugo AKM? Does it not have grenade sights?

:rofl  you sound like an angry Chinaman. Maybe you were one of Stilwell's Chindits in a past life, eh?

That's exactly what most people say. In my world, liking to carry a rifle is of lesser importance than dependability, but that's just me.

Shooting clay pigeons at 300 meters is a breeze. At 500 meters you hit a prone target with a 2 shot guarantee if you only know what you're doing. On the range it definitely has its place but on the hunt it's dependable even if not handled with great care. Much also depends on a good carry system if you're going distances, and if you're not going distances who the f cares?  :D

Sounds like your preferred game is the two-legged kind ;) Well, mine is now chambered for the 9.3 Mauser. It doesn't do very well beyond 300 meters due to the big bullet, but under 300 it will stop just about anything in one shot reliably, including bears. If I ever go to Africa to hunt some big game, this is the rifle I want. :)

One of my neighbors has a 9.3 and I've seen what it can do to Elk. 2010 he shot a big male the bullet ripped through both lungs and a major piece of the heart was actually torn out of the animal to be found a couple meters behind it, the animal took one step forward and fell. The ballistics of the 9.3 is not impressive but the damage at close range, holy crap.

 :rofl You nailed it.

Seriously though, What's the specs on your Yugo? I have an M70 Underfolder, one of the earlier receiver Century versions. Curious as to what you got. <S>

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Theres something about Rem-700s that make them scarey accurate right out of the box. Everyone Ive ever shot seems to be more accurate then anything else you can buy off the shelf. All I did to mine was trigger it "I get all my rifles triggered to 3&1/2 lbs" and float it.

I load two rounds for it a 168 grn match and the 150 grn Sierra Game King. and have taken a lot of game with the GameKing SPBT. Its the most accurate hunting bullet Ive ever loaded.

But every 700 Ive ever shot has had more round to round accuracy then any other rifle maker Ive seen.
