As a trainer, I can say it's difficult to assist guys when they don't know the very basics. Like radio and starting the engine/raising landing gear. Difficult, not impossible. It just takes about 30 minutes of time to explain them how it all works and stuff, then the rest of the time is spent explaining flight and how to take off.

What I was thinking, tonite actually, was creating an email rather than the PDF I'm working on(I have it all text based anyway, so just copy and past) so that when a new user creates himself an account an email is sent to him with his username and password but it also has a list of the commands and what the GUI interface does.

I already have the clipboard down in email form already, all I would need to do is add in a few more details and put in what each key press does.

Perhaps this would be more helpful? When they get their password via email, they also get a sort of email based "manual" of sorts.

Just a brainfart I had.

I could do with one less ground vehicle in a flight sim with that programming time spent sharing the charts for corner speeds for all the planes, in a professionally published manual. With all the number crunching for 1.04, certainly they know. I just go into a fight and pull regardless of speed cause i have ZERO data on the planes. Did the guys in real life know all the performance characterists of their aircraft? Im going to bet they did so they could make them perform.

Somehow letting guys play for free to make your manuals seems kinda unprofessional.

Newbies are pretty overwelmed in the MA's unfamiliar environment you gotta admit.

Takin candy from babies tends to unecessarily traumatise the baby. There's price fer 'easy kills'.. dissatisfied customers that don't sign up after two weeks of being clubbed like a bay seal.

Give the toddlers a chance... educate 'em. What kid WANTS to go to school?? It's mandatory out there in the real world.. yah don't hand a toddler a gun and tell 'em to 'protect the house, we'll be back later'.

"HOW DO I DROP BOMBS??"

Back ta class, chum.

Funny how many people in this thread were asking on open channel how to XXXX when 1.05 first came out....

You don't have to answer them.  Do if you feel up to it, don't if you don't.

Maybe... Ignoring is all we can do.

As a Korean, I'm feeling almost painful about any Korean newbie comes in and say
"I'm Korean, I don't English, HELP"
"KOREAN HELP HELP HELP!"
(when shot down) "F**K".

You know, there are not many of Koreans flying in AH. at such situation I feel responsible to help them/save them/ or at least, silence (<g> ) them.

Trying to save them by private radio was way too hard for me.(as someone said, It needs at least 30 min, and we are unable to type Korean in AH radio, It takes more time) But just ignoring them were also painful.

Finally I've wrote a manual for AH, named "newbies guide for AH" in Korean Language. After I've done the first version of newbie-manual, I've mailed them, any Korean newbies that I happened to met in AH.

But no avail. I've found out that If they going to fly, they will read manual no matter it is english or Korean, readable or not, they do try their best to learn. but if they won't learn, translated/localized manual won't help at all. That's What I've learn. (So My manual was almost useless

well, anyway I think I need to do something about korean newbies. this is what I do.
step 1> get his e-mail address
step 2> tell him my e-mail address, tell him feel free to ask anything.
step 3> mail him my manual
step 4> don't feel sad if there comes no response at all. (I've got thanks mail, about 1:3 ratio. ) ignore them! :>

I'm very willing to help them. but sometimes ... it feels very empty.

---

By the way, If we can use 'Double Byte Codes' on channel, (maybe only on private channel) It would be much easier to help newbies. I remember Warbirds 2.x (I donno how WB works now tho.) permited to use Local Language in radio channel.

(Japanese or Korean Languages cannot be typed in current radio channel. they are not ascii/or 8bit 1byte code. )

Hehehe, I had one trying to "join" me about FIVE times while I was furballing between a vulched field and an NME CV ... it was....interesting, to fly with the stick in one hand, the mouse in the other, ready to click on "NO"...

Newbies asking for help is, errr Normal, you will get them whatever you do.I think there are enough of us able to help, even one after the other.  I sometimes do, or I don't...it will just depend of my Mood. Usualy, someone will answer him(heh, even a lot of times, I see a newbie answering another one!).

Then again, maybe i've just read the word "RTFM" too many times (professionaly).

Newbies are not the ones I squelch, I have another list for that

<S!> to TailLights for what you are doing.(maybe you could put it up on a webpage, and submit it to HTC so that they could link it?) If you don't know how to, drop me an Email (see profile)

90% of the time when I see these newbie questions I'll just go on private channel with the guy and try to help him out.

Often that involves us leaving the MA for the relative sanity of the TA

If you're getting jaded with AH, just spend half an hour helping a new guy.  You'll reap rewards far beyond his thanks when he manages to take off for the first time.

Newbies are why we are all here.  Let's not forget the contribution they make to Aces High.

Hehehehe, Yesterday nite, Mandoble has been hosting a newbie in his roomy 109 cabin. The guy jumped into the cabin, thinking it was a buff, and asking where were the gun positions  .  Finally he hit the silk....Mandoble guessed too many G's

Cheers,

Pepe.

Saw, I remember those guys! They send you 50 some-odd join requests then get pissy when you say No. Since I run a training page I've had more than my fair share of those people. They see the handle (Delta6) and think "Cool he's here!" then promptly bang out a join request. I've flown 20 minutes or more with one hand on the stick, and the other on the mouse. I'd see the request pop up, I'd hit NO.....another one comes up, NO. Very annoying.

I've had 'em come up in the middle of a fight before too. I had a nice tracking shot on a Lanc and waited for the range to close a bit. WHAM "SnotNose wants to join you". Little fragger blew my shot, but I got the Lanc on my next pass.

Well, when a newbie ask to join AND your are in a fighter, best nice thing to do is to answer yes, especially if you have just TO for a loooong range sortie.

He cant harm you, but for sure will be bored to death.

Next time he will not ask again.

Version 1.05 Patch 5... Added a torpedo loadout option on the Ju 88.  These torpedos are faster but have a shorter range (2200 yards) than the Mk 13 torpedo.  The maximum drop parameters on these torpedos are 210 MPH at 390 feet.

There is lots of information about each release in the accompanying readme - if people would just read them. I'm sure it's also frustrating for the people that write them to realize that so few read them - and the height of stupidity - that so many pride themselves on not reading them.
