What dirt road?  The potholes on our freeways would eat it for lunch.

A few years ago a friend that worked for a dealership brought me a CCM 660 Supermoto and challenged me to try and crash it on the sodden roads.

Never ridden anything like that, on any other bike you would be worried about the rear trying to overtake the front, on that it felt like I was 8 years old and riding my Raleigh Grifter :old:

My problem is I only have 29 1/2 inch inside leg so most trailie types are way to tall for me and to reach the floor I have to have the crook of the opposite knee on the seat, not to mention that the world suddenly seems full of Ewan McGregor wannabees in silly suits :bhead

Danny,I have the same issue, vertically challenged!   However my idea would lower the bike, since it would only be ridden on the street I wouldnt need all that suspension travel.

I've seen similar bikes being built all over the world by custom builders. I thought if I could find a dual sport bike like say an XT500/600 honda or the like for cheap,it might be a good hobby for me to waiste time and money on..... :devil

Can play golf anymore so I have to find something to do!

I think that Elio is very interesting.  I think that it's great that they are offering them.  More than 90% of what I use my current car for, one of those would work just fine.  My only concern would be safety.  Airbags and roll cage could do it, but I'd want to see the testing results.  They would certainly be enormously more safe than motorcycles.

Horseapples.

It is safer not to have an accident.

Which vehicle, mine or that one, is more capable of avoiding an accident?

American made in Louisiana, 2 seater (inline), a/c standard, 3cyl engine that achieves 84mpg, 5 star (car) crash ratings (It is technically classified a motorcycle), and only costs $6800! Supposed to hit the market in 2015. I am very skeptical about it as it seems to good to be true. But if it does actually do what it claims and still costs under $7000 new I will buy one. I currently drive a 2003 Yukon XL (suburban) daily and it is usually just me in the truck commuting to work and school. Only on the weekends is the truck actually used as intended as a family hauler. I spend over $100 just to fill the tank and that lasts me a little over a week. The Elio is ugly but I'm all about cheap and efficient transportation. I don't see how it can only cost $6800 when a can-am spyder motorcycle is over $20k new. This car/motorcycle will destroy the hybrid/compact car market over night.

OK, if you get hit in one, it would be safer to be in one of those than on a motorcycle.  ;)

The driver probably has a lot to do with that.  ;)

I am all in for $1500 upfront, number 694 on the list for one, will see how it turns out ............shrug might be a total bomb although I don't think so, basically just a trike with cover.

If it achieves its 84 MPG I will be thrilled, live in Indiana and pretty flat here except for the southern portion.

I always ride alone to work, why haul around 2 tons of sheet metal back and forth everyday in my truck when not on cycle.

Usually ride the cycle when the weather is nice, I think the ELIO will be better when it comes to safety than a cycle, if I don't like it I will sell it to someone and the end of the waiting list.

I'll let you know if it ever materializes...........

I read this and laughed!  True your bike could likely outrun it's shadow but I have to ask again,"How many times have you dropped your bike?"   What exactly happened to that pinky finger..... :devil

Arlo,I agree with you, however I know Zoney is that driver!

The elio is ugly.  There is (or was) a similar vehicle out, I think it'd be a hell of a lot more fun

Okay okay okay, 47 crashes.  But that only seems like alot.  They are all on a racetrack though.  I really miss that right pinky too.  I was very attached to it.

I ride a motorcycle every day and have for 40 years.  I live in Arizona so motorcycles can be much more than a toy, it is my transportation.

Friday I took delivery of a 2014 Honda CBR1000RR SP.  This bike is unbelievable.  400 pounds and 155 HP.  Full Ohlins Race suspension, Brembo Monoblock Brakes, and an engine built by HRC (Honda Racing Company) that is blueprinted and balanced from the factory.  It is also a "monoposto", no passengers, maximum rider weight is 200 pounds.  The bike has a mileage computer on it, even new and tight, it gets 55 MPG at 65 MPH, sitting straight up.  If I go into a full tuck it is 63 MPG at 65 MPH.

Not only is the gas mileage very good but it is very exciting to ride.  It would be a half a million dollar super car to have this performance.

This is not however a cheap machine to operate.  The bike is $17,000.  Tires which are Honda spec tires built by Pirelli will only go about 3,000 miles and are $500.00 a pair.

Nothing makes me feel like I feel when riding a bike in the Arizona mountains on a sunny Saturday morning.  My brothers Prius gets the same gas mileage, but the experience is not quit the same.

I rode motorcycles from about age 11 into my 20's, but almost all off road.  I would have loved to use a motorcycle for my normal street transportation, but I know a lot of street-bike folks, and all but about two have had some near-death experience on road, even ones who were very skilled at riding and at defensive driving (looking out for what the other guy might do wrong, etc.).  Fun, yes.  Safe, no.  There is a reason why riding them disqualifies you for some life-insurance plans and why emergency-room physicians call them "donor cycles."
