Are you using a SweetFX preset or the default settings?  With the default settings, you're not going to see much difference other than in lighting and shadows and even then the difference is slight.  Make sure that you're pressing SCROLL LOCK to turn on/off SweetFX while in game.

MADe and I had created some templates and uploaded them to the SweetFX database (http://sfx.thelazy.net/games/).  Try any of those settings and then let me know if you're still having the same problem.

After reading some of Ack Ack's posts about the benefits of this little utility, I'm going to give it a whirl as well, and download some of those pre tweeked templates from Made and Ack to see what it does.  New monitor and vid cards this week, no better time to try it than now.

I'll tell you from personal experience...once you get it working and maybe tweak it a little, you won't be able to go back to the original un-modified game screens.

Zack,

It's amazing!  :aok

A little tricky to set up, but allows you to increase shadows, tweak colors and contrast in a number of ways, even has antialiasing.

Peters,

Did you place the Sweetfx folder and files in the proper place?  Then remember to add the game, and even after game is added you need to click install to get it to function.  After that you just tweak or use the settings that Ack Ack suggested (there is an auto save feature, I usually shut the app down and open again to check if settings were saved).

When tweaking SweetFX you can Alt-Tab out of AH, make your changes, and Alt-Tab back in to see the changes. DirectX restarts when you Alt-Tab back in.

In the AH start up screen -> video settings, I have AA set to "None". If I have AA turned on, SweetFX doesn't work for me.

This is a short video I made showing the difference using the preset I made and the stock AH graphics.  The video starts with SweetFX enabled and then at the 0:27 mark shows the stock AH graphics.  I'll let you judge whether or not SweetFX improves the visuals.

Does SweetFX come back on at 0:43 or so, because the cockpit frames and the ground start to look similar to those in the beginning of your video?

Yes, I turned it back on towards the end.

Here's a link to another thread from earlier this year, in case some of you can't get it working or still wonder what it's all about:
