I don't fall into either group by that definition.  I just want something that works with out a fuss.

That would be an appliance ammo.

That would be an appliance ammo.

Or a hammer, screwdriver, Ford Mustang, or on the subject, an IPhone.

I don't fall into either group by that definition.  I just want something that works with out a fuss.

That means you want an appliance.  The only remaining distinction is if you can objectively evaluate the available options without getting emotionally biased by preconceptions about one brand or another.

For example, I know some people who want an appliance smartphone, but who are so bent out of shape by Apple's "our way or the highway" approach that they refuse to consider apple products that would otherwise meet their needs.  They often end up searching through the dozens of available android phones looking for the one that in the end feels the most like an iphone.  I was like that when I first wanted a smartphone and ended up with a palm pre.  That was a nice phone but it was a developmental dead end and I ended up figuring that if an iphone did what I wanted and my wife's friends had iphones, then we'd get iphones next time.  We've been happy with iphones ever since, although I might have to dump iphones due to the size growth.  I upgraded to a 5S because neither of the iphone 6 models will fit in my pocket.  If they don't offer a 5S sized phone next generation I'll have to figure out something else.  I could end up with a dumb "free" or pay as you go flip phone again if the iphones don't fit in my pocket.  Sometimes form factor is a hard and fast requirement and the fact that Apple simply doesn't care has to be accounted for when getting past the emotional buying decision and picking a device that I'll be happy with.  Either the device fits the requirements or not, and who cares what the manufacturer's design focus is.

The only exception I have to that rule is Sony...  Those bastards rooted my computer years ago and nobody was ever held accountable or even apologized for what is now a serious federal crime with severe penalties.  No matter how good it is, I don't buy anything from Sony that will touch my computer or handle any private information, and I don't even let my sony "smart" BD player on the same network as my home computers.  Once bitten...

I am not not emotionally connected to any device, OS, VC, whatever.  Yea - I tend to like Ford cars... but different subject altogether

I spend my money to provide the wants/needs I see fit.  Say what you want - the IPhone delivers- turn it on and it works

I am pretty sure no one is saying anything bad about the iPhone.

If the product fits your needs, then you got the right product.  I feel for those who buy a product which does not fit their needs and then watch them try to make it fit.  It is not pretty.

I do think the new cameras in the iphone 6 are awesome though.  There's a big jump in quality and they threw in some basic image processing styles "free".  That's been one of the best parts of my wife having an iphone 6.  We can take pics anywhere that rival the quality we got with a $300 compact camera just a few years ago.

I can't believe how much better the cameras in the iphones are than the iPads.  I got in a hit in run right before xmas, and had my Ipad in the car - the first pictures I've ever taken with it.  They were terrible, even on the best/highest res - complete crap.  A passerby had an iPhone 5, and took some of the scene as well and emailed them to me.  Huge difference.  I thought it was a settings issue, but it isn't.  Ipad Air pics = pretty bad, it's made mainly for skype type applications, not still pics so I've read now, but it's pretty disappointing to have such a bad still cam in a 500$ device, when a 300$ phone from Apple gets a far, far better camera.

Gman the iphone isn't $300.  It costs more like $800-$900.  Phone service contract subsidies drop the price for most people.  Ipads are essentially the same as "unlocked" iphones, which is why they cost more.  An ipad with a 3 year data service contract would probably cost $100.

You'd poop a brick if you had to deal with a Samsung Note 4 (or later).  :)

Talk about big!

Actually, I am with you on this point.  It is one of the reasons I still carry a flip phone, because I do not have to carry it! :D  It fits in any of my pockets.

I'd just enable data on my ipad mini and carry that around.  I've seen some guys who like that gangsta look holding that thing up to their head...  Looks as silly as their pants halfway down their butt and their seats reclined so they can't see out of their car.  Lots of image, not a whole lot of substance in a lot of cases.  Still, I suppose some people need to present some sort of fantasy image to give them something to do.
