I look at it this way, bombing factory targets and headquarters, is there is there to simulate strategic warfare. In aceshigh you bomb factories to disrupt the ability to rebuild key infrastructures such as ordnance, towns, AAA guns and fuel. Headquarters are a command-and-control facility, as part of strategic warfare in the real world you bomb them to disrupt the ability of your opposition to command-and-control his forces. Here in aces high we simulate this by removing the radar. Without radar you can't see forces is coming at you and it disrupts your ability to react to them. For the most part the system works, if the strategic warfare part of this game is disrupting your ability to engage in combat that's what it's supposed to do. Personally I'd love to see a more detailed strategic warfare in the upcoming updates. But what we have suffices.

The biggest problem we run into with Aceshigh is trying to mix win the war type players with furballer. I think the two sides would get along a lot better if shooting down a plane had an effect on the war. I say this because, about the only planes worth shooting down to the war type is one's carrying bombs.... bombs have an effect on the war. Shooting down planes... very little. Why?......... because  airbases and tank bases never run out of equipment. No matter how many of them you shoot down or bomb. No matter how many tons of bombs you put on a base it's always going to have equipment. Killing fighters is almost meaningless. We can stop them from taking off, but for only 15 minutes. Of all the things that I hope are going to be fixed with the next version of aces high, this is very high on my list. But I'm pretty sure I'm in a very small minority to think this part of the game is truly the most broken part of it.

If we had the numbers we used to have. Or got rid of the large maps to better represent the numbers we currently have HQ wouldsnt be an issue because it would be

a- much harder to sneak in unopposed
B- because fo A would be more likely to be responded to

Fact of the matter is the maps are simply too big now for the player base we currently have. You dont see the dar going down nearly as often on the smaller maps. Because they are harder to sneak to unopposed or unnoticed.

Also while I agree with your point of simulating strategic warfare. Raids on major targets were typically done not by 2 or 3 planes. But by hundreds. In no way shape or form should a target as important as national radar(HQ) be something that could be destroyed by only a couple of planes

Keep in mind I LOVED the big maps over the smaller ones

When we had the numbers to justify having such large maps.
This is no longer the case

To my knowledge nobody has ever denied the validity of the HQ as a strategic target. What is debated is the ease at which it can be destroyed by a single player. How that single player can easily influence everybody elses game play, and the realism of HQ being down also affecting local radar.

In anycase, as I stated before, Dale has already commented on this situation, and I believe it will be history with the new update

I log in to combat other players.. not resupply a HQ.  The only thing dumber is having guys opt out of defending a base,  only because they know they can swarm it with m3s to resupply.  The only thing dumber than both of these above mentioned tactics, is the fact latewar run monster planes fly around unperked.  Talk about promoting combat!!   :headscratch:

Sometimes resupping a base is the best and only way to defend it when the option is either that. Or become the mole in a game of whack a mole.
M3 runners can be just as important to saving a base as getting fighter cover there which often has to come from another base as well and often arrives in forces too small to make a difference

I see hq being down as an opportunity to either hunt tanks at hq or attack buffs who think that dar being down makes them invisible.

Putting variables into the game that dont promote combat,  especially with these low numbers creates a lack of interest for many.  It takes away from the addictive aspect of the game, which is combat, which will in turn hook new players, and help keep the old ones.

On the other hand. Being on the receiving end of a vulchfest also takes away from that addictive aspect.

M3s can bring ack and other things up that cause the vulchers to back off the field enough so people can actually engage in combat

If one guy can knock it out then one guys should be able to resupply it. Or if it takes 5 guys 20 minutes to repair it then it should take 5 guys to take it out.

I'm sorry, but we don't want to play your way any more, we'd like it to be just a bit more fair/even.

I know a few other's have suggested the increase to it's toughness, but I personally call for a minimum of 4 set's of lancs to take it out.  On top of that, double-quadruple the amount of auto-puffy and auto-ack as well as add manned guns and manned flak batteries for added defense.

A few questions are; What is this HQ building based off of?  Is there a historic backing to it, or is it just a building?  What are examples of an HQ complex that could be used vs ours?  I am thinking the HQ could be "spread out" over a larger complex to help in it's defense.

I never understood the hatred towards dar droppers.   All you have to do is communicate on where the action is and leave it at that.   If you rely on dar 24/7, then you are doing it wrong.

Thats cause you'll never understand. Your mind will always take the debate side even in the face of common sense & pure logic. You were trained to think opposite of majority.

Yesterday evening, around 6Pm The rooks took our(knights) dar down. We were low man on the totem pole . We had dar back up quickly, and there wasn't ONE single complaint. This whine is old and irrelevant. The only problem is that people just want to have it their way. DON'T INCONVENIENCE ME! PLAY the way I want you to! Time to quit complaining, folks.

Or M3s with howitzers and supps. which drops a bunch of HQs.
I see the problem and I agree with the smaller maps it would help ease the HQ problem and it would provide more fighting. Im usually on in the AM (0700-1100 CST) and during the week its slow and finding fights is more difficult (not hard). I usually grab a wingman and take rkts to a base pork dar and do some deacking then furball (people) rely on AAA too much.

Maybe the easy fix is to disable the bomber "Formation" button.

Signed on last night and HQ was down.  Just jumped in a c47.

My guess these players are frustrated fighter or gv players that could never win a fight.  Sad, but probably true.
