Sometimes ET would go into a script from his Air Force days during a AH pickup mission to make it more interesting.  I cannot remember the details but it was things like, "Close all oil cooler vents." and "test oxygen supply before passing 10,000 feet."  Or he would coordinate with a fake fighter support with his vox traffic.

And how cool it was when he coordinated a big turn in our pickup mission bomber formation by breaking it to segments to help keep the formation tight.  "Watch that dog house boys," he would say then explain to new players what that was.

This is one of the fella's that got me hooked to the game; looking frantically for the button to "check your oxygen masks for frost" lines during bomber group climb-outs... Made it so much fun!

I, along with everyone whom has had the honor of flying with him in this game, wish you and your dad all the best!  I hope to hear him in game again sometime soon!

It was just recently we were wondering where he went.  Sorry to hear about his health issues.  His passion about the bombers in the game never went unnoticed.

Sorry to hear that your dad's health is failing.  Please tell him "Kong" sends a salute.

Always enjoyed your dad's "missions" in the game.  One stands out in my memory.  He flew behind "enemy lines" and ditched his plane.  Then a few of us set out in fighters to escort a C-47 in a search and rescue mission.  Seems a tribute to how ET played the game that he would think of search and rescue as a fun objective.

 :salute

I remember that mission.  I was flying the rescue C-47 that day.  We had to land very deep in enemy territory and pick up ET and fly back.   Most of the fighters didn't make it back but we did.   That was a great mission and confused the hell out of the enemy.  They didn't know what was gong on.  Nobody had seen a mission like that before.

I am looking for some screenshots of our missions to post.   The one that stands out the most is, when the Devil Dog's and friends launched over 50 sets of B-17's in a V formation with over 20 fighter escorts and closed four well defended bases in one pass and captured two of them.   It took us a half an hour to form everybody up.  Like always, the enemy knew we were coming.  Like always, most of us made it back home.

ET stressed teamwork and ethics.   His bomber missions will continue (we have them saved) and the Devil Dogs are one of the best squads at teaching new pilots and working with other squads.  We fight, and we fight deep.

This evaluation is incorrect. Planes would not turn better with out a V stab.

This also is not necessarily true. Just because you lost a V stab, it does not mean the aircraft is not stable in the yaw axis.

The fuselage can also provide a degree of stability depending on is shape and size.

And finally , rudders and V stabs do not normally make you turn, LIFT generated by the wing is what makes you turn.

    HiTech

Appreciate your comments Hi Tech, but: #1- a rudder is on a aircraft to control "Yaw" about the vertical axis! #2- The rudder is on the aircraft to overcome the adverse "yaw" created by the down aileron in a turn. Next time you are in a real aircraft, start a left or right turn, with out touching the rudder and you will notice the nose of the aircraft moves in the opposite direction that you want to turn, before lift of the wing overcomes it and it starts turning in the direction you want the aircraft to go in. The vertical stabilizer is designed by the aircraft designers to "hold" the aircraft in a straight line when flying at the design Cruise speed. Example, the P-51B and D models, if you are standing behind the aircraft looking forward, the leading edge of the vertical stab is offset to the left, 1.26 degrees. The reason for this is to overcome torque and "P" factor in straight and level flight,at the design cruise speed. If you exceed the design Cruise speed, which if I recall correctly is 289MPH, IAS, it will turn to the right without any input from the pilot. If you slow to less than 289MPH, IAS, it will turn to the left without any input from the pilot. But, that is why we have trim-tabs, so that you may trim the aircraft to fly "hands off" at any speed, and to relieve control pressure! The only thing the fuselage does for an aircraft is carry the pilot, sometimes fuel, the engine and etc. The Fuselage does nothing to aid flight, as it only produces DRAG! Check the shape of many supersonic aircraft and see how they gradually get to the famous "coke" bottle shape. By the way, these are not my flight princpals, these were established more than 70 or 80 years ago by people who were a lot smarter than I am. I Was a professonal pilot from 1953 to 1996, with 22,924 hours total time, and I am still learning today!!!!

I know his last year or two he couldnt fly long cause he'd have to rest but he never lost his sense of humor.

Mike if theres anyway he could at least come one the forum we'd all like to hear from him again. His friends havnt forgotten him. In real life he loved the B26 Marauder best but in the game you couldnt get him out of those B17s.

I would like Skuzzy or Hitech and everybody to coordinate a full theater B-17 flyby this Sunday.  Any suggestions?

On behalf of the 49th fighter group, I would like to pass along the Squads condolences to ET37’s Family and to his squad mate’s in the 94th B/A Group - The Devil Dogs. I have flown numerous B17 missions with ET37 at the helm of the Bomb Group, and was a real pleasure to hear him guide the group to the target. I will, as well at the other 49ers will miss this devoted player who put some great realism into the game.
High Flight
by John Gillespie Magee, Jr
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Final flight.  I'm sure it's a good one, full tanks, engines synchronized, clear skies and a brisk tailwind.

RIP, dude, you brought a lot of good knowledge to a lot of people who appreciated it.
