Joe,

Even I'm interested in this! Dueling not so much as it's got all the issues you have mentioned and then there's the ego thing!

But hey if you can make a couple of bucks and have fun I say why not?

E sports are becoming a big thing, like Bruv said a guy just walked away with 200K and I have heard of teams that make huge money and all expenses paid. Not that I envision that for Aces high but if it brings in more players and allows those who are hear to find some fun and excitement then again I say why not!

Will there be issues....sure But nothing that cant be dealt with and overcome.

I might even show up for a chance at some extra cash! :aok

Perhaps limit the amount of prizes one person can win in a 12 month period in "Free to Enter" tournaments?  So yes, maybe those top 10-12 people will win one, but you could then be disqualified from entering free to play tournaments for 3-6 months if you've collected prizes?

Still seems to be a bit weird.  I'd personally like to see things more like air races than combat to try and keep things like HO's and questionable collisions etc. out of the argument.

Thats the point tho, some of those games have thousands and thousands of followers. Thousands of players waiting on the edge of there seats for the next release, but here we aren't in that group. We're lucky if we can get more than 200 at one time on line. I just dont see this bringing ANYONE into the game.

Or possibly push yourself to be better..... just a thought.

At 60 years old with eye sight going away with my reflexes, working a full time job, a home with a wife I've had for 35 years (and would like to continue keeping  :D ) I really doubt that I can push myself to be much better, but that isn't the point. The point is this isn't going to bring in more players with out a huge push in advertising and we all know how HTC feels about advertising. How many players are in KOTH these days? That is basically what we are talking about here, KOTH with prizes right? Even if there was some sort of "Air Racing" tourneys I just dont see people flocking in to join Aces High for them.

If HTC suddenly has a streaming site up and televises the money matches live, more players may show up.

It's an interesting way to try and bring in new players.  I say we give it a chance.

Agreed.  Really, if the concept offends you, you don't have to enter the contest.

Call me what you will, but I believe that this isn't a good thing, as a principle and for this specific game.

Completely turns me off to game. People already take it far too seriously as it is.

It doesn't offend me, I just dont see how this is going to help the game.

I just hate to see HTC waste their time (granted it IS their time to waste) on something that isnt going to bring in the numbers we need for the game to become "healthy" again.

Id rather see them use their time to build a newbi arena with below average AI and audio "tool tips" to help newbis get a grip on how things work, get a few kills on the AI to build some confidence, see how the game works so that when they move over to the MA they are not crushed by everything and log off never to be seen again.

Negative

This New Feature that HTC has added to Aces High has nothing to do with or compare with, what the KOTH events are about!

As far as how many people are participating in KOTH these days, the numbers fluctuate up and down, just like they always have, but that too has nothing to do with the new features that HTC has just added

Hope this helps

All of it is important; most of it vital; and all of it just too much for one brain to absorb in 1-2 lessons" TC

The match play arena would benefit from some AI as I am pretty sure that not that many people enter it when it is empty, thus engendering a catch 22 situation. If there was always at least 2 robots then people would enter and then other people would see someone in there and would enter as well. The robots could go to sleep when the humans arrive.
