I do find this whole thing amusing.
Folks crying about nobody to fight in the "Melee" arena, but HTC keeps creating other arenas to draw people away from the "Melee" arena.   :headscratch: Whatever.

Or possibly push yourself to be better..... just a thought.

I work in the real world I don’t use a cartoon game to push myself or get better  :)

Its a laugh and when it stops being a laugh and a chore you leave and do something else :old:

Offering money or prizes is irrelevant to me, but if people want partake it’s their choice, cannot see any problems for the game if people want to.

As long as AH does not turn in to Warblunder and you have to do x y and z to fly a P51.

Do other games offer prizes for being alpha male
Is there a awesome prize if so when do I get the money :old:

Negative

This New Feature that HTC has added to Aces High has nothing to do with or compare with, what the KOTH events are about!

As far as how many people are participating in KOTH these days, the numbers fluctuate up and down, just like they always have, but that too has nothing to do with the new features that HTC has just added

Hope this helps

TC

You dont think a KOTH type tourney will be one of the styles they use? You dont think they may add "prizes" to THE KOTH tourney we have now?

I also see a "ladder" type tourney as a possible format as well, but it doesn't matter which formats they use the point is, how will this bring more players into the game and help them stay and maintain a subscription?

Check out these Esport earnings top games. These are the numbers of players who ENTER the tourneys. Most of them far out strip the total SUBSCRIPTIONS here let alone the number of players who will jump into these tourneys.

This game has a pretty big learning curve. That means that most of the "kids" who jump in looking to learn fast and start winning are NOT going to be hanging around. They will quickly move on to something they can master much quicker. Because "up,up, right,A,B,B,down, down, right,A" is never going to be a winning formula here.

Sure its a cool program, and sure its going to be fun, but for only a couple dozen players. I just dont see it helping the game over all.

perhaps breaking the tourneys down by rank brackets would help, at least then you are playing with people within your skill set and for many it should push them to improve without being thrown to the wolves right off the bat. I also think they should not allow anyone who has not completed a tour of duty to participate. This will give the newer cats a little time to learn the basics and kind of get with the program.

The way this would work is the better the rank bracket, the bigger the payout. They could even offer perk points as prizes with the lower ranked tourneys, give them just enough of a taste to make them want more.

I don't know, just some ideas is all.

rank

800 - 1000

500 -799

200 - 499

1 - 199

Competition and gaming for money has increased substantially in the last 10 years. It's not "old school" any more. People take games seriously. That's their choice.  Who would have thought you could actually make a living winning video games live. Dota for F sakes? Aces High is way better. Core competiton is natural and should be encouraged.

Look at MMA, single sports, large sports, the "TOP 10" is actually made up of the same people most of the time. What would be the point even playing tennis professionally if you didnt believe you'd be in the top 10? Just a mind set. Some people play it for fun. Some with competition, and some even for money. I don't see why it should be shunned. We learn from these best players and strive to beat them one day. That's the spirit.

I hope a lot of different flying situations will happen.

I don't think this will take anything away from the MA. The MA is still within itself a good concept. Actually more people will play in the MA because these tournaments would draw players, and they would flock the MA for fun. Hell would even bring squads back I think.

Just a thought.

Some good points on all fronts. I'm not super familiar with this new arena concept, but I will say that there could be some enticing features/prizes that borrow from other games as well.

- What if there were a limited edition plane or skin that was offered in prizes? For example, in EVE Online, there are very exclusive ships that people can earn from top tourneys. Those can then be exchanged or traded for in-game currency or other prizes. Perhaps HTC could provide a specific plane from a famous unit (like a special P-51 from the Red Tails) that had some special attributes in the MA (e.g. they got damage modifier or better WEP power timing/cooler-running engine, along with a unique a/c skin)

- How bout an in-game market to swap for certain things, maybe some high-explosive rounds or something else that would be worth spending your perk points or match-win points on?

- Or keep it simple and provide a bunch of perk points for the winner?

I think that anything to keep HTC and Aces High alive and relevant is a good thing. When I check YouTube, I'd expect there to be a metric boatload of Aces High videos, but I only see a relatively small amount, with 1-4k views per most of them. Other games have literally MILLIONS of views. We need to do something to bring in some fresh blood, and I'm all about the competitive spirit. Let the best pilots win!!!

Why was this post sticky'd then un-sticky'd?  (grammar is not my first language.)

Imagine the vitriol that will inevitably ensue when large, yet fragile egos are bruised and there is money involved.   :uhoh

From what I read no players are betting any money. That takes a lot of pain away from losing. Imagining a "bruised ego" scenario is a false misconception. If you can't handle yourself, don't sign up. Other sports, games, seem to find a way to have sportsmanship. Just look at Chess as an example. MMA if you really wanna talk about "bruise". Drone racing. Halo being in the Xgames.. Why is AH strictly different than those competitions when it comes to egos? I think other dimensions and gaming scenarios in AH are a good thing. In fact, the Special Events should very well advertised and one of their top bulletins. They are so great for the game and the community.

It's an interesting way to try and bring in new players.  I say we give it a chance.
ABSOLUTELY! I had a similar idea several months ago and asked a few players I respect about the feasibility of it! Like a way to handicap scores(like golf) to make every one who improves feel they have a chance to compete. I like this !
