If a tavern or restaurant owner lets his friends cuss and carry on in an unpolite manor and insult other customers,  If the security harasses the customers and allows His or Her buddies to do the same, Sooner or later all you have is Them for customers.   I see a fair amount of youngsters  start to play and don't last long although They were pretty good and liked It. I would venture more than a few of their parents did not approve  of the chat, language or behavior of   some of the adults. The insults, name calling sexual content and vulgar behavior. "Most players don't want to know how much puss the doctor drained out of your leg". More effective and less biased moderation might be a good start.

Floob I think with regard to Fugitive's observation most all MMO's are toxic, but I'm talking about creating one arena that would try to sidestep the normal toxicity.  If it lost some of the toxicity, there would likely be more players. I play the game for the enjoyment of it, and find the toxicity taxing.  I play without 200 on most of the time, for that reason.  But if the kills and killers were anonymous, and you could only talk to one side, it would add to the game in my opinion.

    .squelch GameID
    .unsquelch GameID or ALL
.report GameID (reports abusive radio text)
.vreport GameID (reports abusive radio talk/voice)
    .vsquelch GameID
    .vunsquelch GameID or ALL

These are effective methods of solving the problem.

Yes.  Players typing in all CAPS should be muted.  It's terribly rude.  Impolite.

Guess I'm not playing at the toxic times.  (Though I turned off ch200 on day one.)  Have gotten maybe 3 or 4 nasty PMs, but I just reply with "<S>" and that's the end of it.

Is ch200 on by default for new players?

Also, I like knowing who my kills and killers are so I can offer a salute after a good fight.

YMMV.

No, ch200 is not on by default, a player has to make their own decision to tune to it

Hope this helps

What do skins have to do with player toxicity?

Also these are bad ideas in general, even if they were somehow relevant to your main point.

Someones feelings got hurt so we should change the entire game?  Squelch, report, and or detune. Ch200 builds community, there is only one or two people really guilty of what your saying.

Deal with them appropriately as mentioned above.

A player has to go out of their way to tune into 200 that makes it voluntary plus the squelching is a plus.. personally I like knowing who killed me or I killed.. and the playful banter I enjoy and any abuse can be squelched and reported  ... I want some freedom that can't be changed by childish behavior

Its a bit more complicated than that. In regards to the situation I ran into, it was with my Ex-Wifes youngest son. He was absolutely loving this game, plus it helped me spend some more time with him...he is in Alabama/me Tennessee. Odd situation, I know, but if I didnt try to mentor him...noone else would. Was sad, really...even took him to family farm in WV to deer hunt...bastage killed the Biggest Buck I ever saw FIRST TIME-First day :furious Back on point. He was pretty damn good too..it was like it was natural for him. Problem was, he killed 2 of THE WRONG FOLK to shoot down. It wasnt so much that his feelings got hurt..it was more along...why should I play this game? I get enough brow beating, put downs and abuse at MY HOUSE...dont need more thank you very much. Did it scar him for life no...did he handle it properly? I THINK SO..he just walked away, instead of getting on their level. Guess I did SOMETHING RIGHT. I was proud of him..but it hurt me more than I let him know. THAT sort of CRAP...shouldnt happen...we should ALL be better than that :uhoh

What do skins have to do with player toxicity?

Everything. With sufficiently thick player skin, toxicity doesn't matter.
