It appears even the drones won't go as low as 65 feet.

But then, drones don't show on dar anyway. It's only the lead (=players) altitude that counts.

If the drones won't go lower than 65', why not just set tower radar to 0 feet then? Get it over and done with. Make NOE dead.

Cause 65' tower and 200' sector is like a having a hot fudge Sunday but no spoon. It just gets messy.  200' tower and 500' sector is like we're all having that hot fudge Sunday with a spoon but you're sitting in a Deuce moving troop hauler and the guy who's driving may be a noob and yer all cursin and swearing trying not to get messy.

Anything lower than 65' would have made planes sitting on the deck of a carrier appear on dar.

I doubt you'll see this changed. The reason it was changed originally was because there were too many NOE/hiding type missions going on. I dont think the game play has changed back AWAY from that as more and more people try to avoid contact/fight now as much if not more than the did back then when they changed it.

I know why he put it in - but it went from "fairly easy" to NOE, to outright impossible, especially with drones... was a lunchbag letdown for those of us who would fly NOE.

How about 100 ft? Maybe 150? But 65 feet is absolutely redonkulas - actually unflyable. I'm asking for a balanced approach to allow NOE - but earn it.

The drones don't matter - unless something has changed  :old:

As Lusche said, drones dont matter. They can fly under ground, through trees or above dar limits and they dont blow up or show on dar. NOEs are still an option, KB ran a mission Saturday night and we got in and took the base in a few minutes. You see more of them on "island" maps because they dont grow trees out on the water  :) but they still run them.

Good to hear. The challenge with NOE in faster machines like the Tiffy or any of the later war American attack planes is that at 300mph - a slight deflection you’re either in the water or way above 65’ - not a whole lot of wiggle room for error there. Better not sneeze , fart, or burp while flying... :D

I used to do all my intercepts NOE when a field was being attacked with no friendly defenders.

Sure, it's hard to make hard turns at 360mph over land but over water, it easy to stay below 65 feet if you look at the VSI.

Simple...

Make BARDAR 200ft and DOTDAR 100ft (avoids DOTDAR when a plane appears on deck of carrier, too) ...

Would make for interesting contact.

No. It's not (mainly) the flying, it's the seeing. Over water forget about flying by looking outside. Estimating the altitude over water by looking outside doesn't work. That causes pretty rough reactions of the human control system.
Try flying in an area with a low amount of trees below tree top level. It's no problem at all to even fly steep turns around them. Compared to water, it's visually clear what's going on.
