Came across one of these testing last year! It was April...water like GLASS, early morning. I put in at Goose Pond, in Scottsboro,Al...Lake Guntersville. It was COLD...so here I go...doing about 60mph....turn into Main Channel...just like a dream! Then I start to hear a WHINE coming up from behind me. I look to my left and here goes this JET ZOOMING right past me. He was out of sight in about 3 minutes. My buddy looks at me and yells....WE NEED A COCKPIT LIKE HE HAD....I AM FROZEN! Well, he had a grin frozen on his face for 15 minutes AFTER WE STOPPED! I had the Helmet with Face shield :devil

Yes the grins tend to be large.

You can see them live, Lake Gunterville June 28-30 2019

Your friend might not grin, or maybe he would, after a ride in one of these,

Great race.

I grew up haunting the pits at the miami marine stadium working for anyone who would let me hang out.

I'm glad to see hydroplanes racing.

LOL 1stpar3.

Icepac if you were in Miami in '79 then you saw me blow over on the front straight just past the grandstand. Dumb driver moment, be sure.

Those top off shore boats are crazy.

The Uboats are impressive but lack the sound of the old V12 boats.

I prefer the sound of big block V8s.

The first 2 classes I call the bubble bees (stock and modified Pinto engines). The next up is stock 350 and then GP (blown alky 468ci)

I will stick to good ole fishing boats...water is hard. 80mph is plenty fast enough to catch a wave and go flying...water is hard :aok

Yes one tends to skip. 80mph is the 'get hurt' speed.

The new boats are very safe with the capsules.

I've seen many boats blowover there so not sure if I saw yours.    I used to crew for patco which was sponsored by the air traffic controllers that reagan later fired.

I did see Skip Walther's crash and another that same event.

I really liked watching the jersey skiffs which looked ready to roll inverted at any moment.

This one is cool and I still believe that a properly fed and charge cooled piston engine can still win.

It was an OPC race in Feb.

Yes JSSs are crazy. Passengers have 'brass ones'.

I noticed water injection in the video (condensation).

There is a lot of "unrealized horsepower" in that video.......possibly up to 1000 more with proper design of turbo system, intercooling, and better utilized methanol injection.

Those bare turbo inlets need a proper inlet design and the intake manifold design guarantees less horsepower than a tapered and larger volume plenum tube.

Couple that with precise controlled injection and spark optimization and you're at or above the horsepower of the turbines.

SAYS the guy that KNOWS what Heaven looks like! Sure, its all good till someone "POOPS" their suit :rofl Flying is great, IN something designed for it :uhoh Hey, at least the water is warmer :x than in your story :rock Hit a big wake once in my Bass Boat...at about 60mph....Came around a corner and Wake was right there, no time to slow down..caught some air and SMACK. Water is HARD, scared me to death- bent the steering wheel with my Knee...OUCH. Knocked the breath out of my partner, thought he had broke his back at first. Thankfully there was enough time to yell "Hold ON". What we get for trying to beat someone to a spot I guess :uhoh The bass werent there anyway...he fished 30 min and left..when we got there...they were hitting(on Idle rest of the trip).

We used to go flying in a VIP Vindicator. Lots of fun.
