Its too bad I discovered this game just this year. It is not a fun game to play. Not for me or any other new player that comes into the game. It is a sad truth that the community of players that play Aces High now will be the only players to ever play the game now.
A new player simply has no chance to experience good, fun gameplay. Even for a player with 20yrs flight game experience will only find frustration in this game. There is no opportunity to learn considering that, after flying for 15 minutes just to get to a base under fire, the new player will instantly get shot down. If he trys to spawn at a battlepoint he will just get spawn raped.
The level of play within the existing community is such that any new player has a zero chance for success or even a bit of enjoyment. If I am in a fighter bearing down on a bomber, the bomber will shoot me down before i even get a shot off.. If I am in the bomber, I will get shot down before I can even get in the turret to shoot at him! If I get above a guy, be in a faster plane and have better guns, he will climb into me and shoot me down with one pass, one burst and im shot down.. but if i get on his six, i waste all my ammo and still not shoot him down..
if i am attacking the ackack, then he mans the gun and shoots me down.. Put me in a field Gun and he shoots me down...
Not is any single scenario wherein I know I have tactical advantage, better aircraft, better weapons, i still find myself getting shot down by a single pass regardless of what they are in. Spawn, fly for 10 to 15 minutes all alone just to arrive and get shot down within 1 minute of engaging.. and repeat. Continually. By everybody.
I had high hopes for this game. Its just too bad that after 4 months of continous play, I am no closer to being even mildly effective that i was when i played it the first time.
You guys are some real good folks and I appreciate your acceptance of me, but for me, video games are therapy for my ptsd and there is not a single enjoyable thing about Aces High for me or any other new player.
Its just a relative statement of truth. No player can or will diminish his own skill to make it more welcoming to any new player.

Take Care
Saam

Everything he has said happens to me repeatedly and Im a AW2 vet. I dont know where this training is that everyone is talking about. I think maybe 1 night /week with structured training would help. Fighters for me? forget it, Im just fodder. Even in bombers I got chewed up this week from a mustang, 1K out that chewed up 2 birds on his first pass. I never thought this was possible. I feel Sam's  pain

For the mustang issue, yeah it's possible, although I can't shoot that well to do it in one pass. I know 1 person that can easily do that and has a few weeks ago. When in a pony and we see bmbrs we start to drool a bit. 3 passes and I should have them all cleared out but one, that's for the guys that have been here a long time.

Kind of why I am going back to 109's or corsairs or some other plane that isn't all speed, shoot em down easy to use. Tougher to be successful in them but just as fun in a fight.

Go here, click the link (which brings you back to the "Help and Training" section of the boards) There is a list of players who have volunteered to help train. Request some help and they will hook you up with one of the trainers that work in the area you want to learn more about.

Its pretty painless.

The problem with the Mustang is it lures you into thinking it is a turn fighter.   It’s biggest weakness is an inability to accelerate in level flight.    Once you get to the bottom of the pile you better not be slow, generally speaking, because it takes forever to get your energy back.

The LA-7 is a good trainer they say.   It is faster than anything it can’t outturn and can outturn anything it can’t outrun.   Below 8K it’s probably the best plane in the game.

the weaknes of the pony is that people expect you to run away, but once in a while somebody gets tricked and you slow down and nail them.  gotten many a p38, zero's and other slow planes.  dont do it all the time but it's fun to do it once in a while.

I find that when I try to fly the p51 to its strength, ppl often mistake "extending" for "running". Course that works in my favor, they're surprised when they see me on their 6, becuz they thought I was not coming back.

If the P51 lives long enough, I generally see them moving away and not coming back.

I had one the other day that I chased after killing the incoming buffs. He ran several times and I turned off to see if I could get him to re-engage. He did and was shot down. Afterward he texted laughing that they had captured my base. I told him it was not my base. I only took off there to kill red icons. There are many bases to take off from.

So he had fun and I had fun. Both of us doing what we like best in the game.

Yeah, but then you run into a 51 like mine and we wind up having a hell of a knife fight.

Exactly.    When I reverse on a Spit behind me with Flaps Two I can see their eyes bug out.

I never could really understand players that let being shot down in this game get to them

You've never shot me down, not that it's particularly difficult,  but you'll get another chance.  :aok

If you want to compare the P-40 and Zeke from WO:P you should probably have the stall limiter on in AH. It's probably good to have it on anyway flying with Touch controllers. Even though it limits your lift it also limits your induced drag so you slow down less as you maneuver. Since turn rate is reduced when you get too slow, you may find yourself turning better with the limiter on, since it prevents you from pulling too much pitch and creating too much drag.
FLS!! I could kiss you!! My brain had the stall limiter functions completely backwards!!! LOL..
100,000 cool points to you for the lightbulb moment tip-of the day in my quest for top gun!!
Also want to mention another lightbulb tip i received by a fine fine gent!! If you actively avoid a collision, you will not collide!!

:t

Ditch the touch controllers.  That will never be viable in this environment unless you stick to bombers or something.  IMHO, there should be a separate arena available for mouse and touch players.  It's really not fair to throw them into a pit of 20 year vet velociraptors with full HOTAS.  :rofl

$0.02.

I don't fully agree brother. I have full HOTAS And have used it (with other setups) being like you.. A multiDecade Ace Killer.. I feel the touch controllers will rapidly improve as the tracking capabilities improves..
If you sit in a real P40, Spit, Pony or other, you will see that the range of movement for a fly by wire flight stick has in like 12 to 18 inches.. wayyyyy outside the range of a HOTAS. What is interesting is that high tech did a fantastic job in simulating that a specific range of motion using the touch controller very very closely matches how an aircraft would react with set amount of deflection applied to a flight  stick in real life..  And its the same thing with the yoke in a B25 or MOSSY.. Yes in reality physically I'm holding a touch controller in each hand but in game in virtual reality after 15 minutes of lFlying the brain actually think you are holding that piece of equipment. If using a mouse and keyboard or hot bellybutton gives you an advantage then that means I have to work that much harder to overcome that advantage and beat you. Not used paci flying the brain actually think you are holding that piece of equipment. If using a mouse and keyboard or hot bellybutton gives you an advantage then that means I have to work that much harder to overcome that advantage and beat you. Not you specifically... lol

Try your HOTAS with VR if you can. You might be surprised. I understand your immersion point but I get the same thing with a HOTAS. The more relevant point is performance. Preferring Touch controllers is fine, but you might compare them to your HOTAS to be sure, since everybody using VR in AH is telling you it's a good idea.
