Well, what do you reckon the stock market will do this year?
« on: January 18, 2021, 02:48:17 PM »
I'm thinking it will be down somewhat for a bit, then will pick back up.  Not at last years pace but generally be a positive market.

I have been told that the market normally goes up right after inauguration, regardless of who got elected, because at that point in time people are more certain of what is going to happen.  It's afterwards when policy changes start taking effect that you may see more up or down due to changes.  Or, at least, that's the theory.  There's is also a theory that if you ask ten different economists, you will get ten different answers.

Fuel is already up by 50 cents a gallon. Farmers will be put on the back burner again. Stocks will head back down... at least for awhile. Unemployment will probably go up over the pre covid numbers.... more so for one group.

If what I think and been hearing about actually happens, I expect the market to see some major downward volatility in the short term due to fear and uncertainty. I know there will be many angry people with deep pockets in the market who will take it down.

If it doesn't happen and we carry on, you will see the market go up until the new policies and fed rates going into effect. Then business will be anticipating more expenses due to regulations and taxes while also potential for more shut downs. I could see it in a declining correction for a good time.

Who really knows. I am very uncertain and have been debating selling some shares tomorrow.

In good news. My brain/prostate cancer stock ISR went up 180% over the last 2 weeks! Ive made my best gains ever!

If you are up 180% sell. You have not made a dime until u sell.  Future increase in value should be tied to future growth.  If business continue to be improving the growth should continue. It's like a game played people, betting on value in the future. The bets have been made and tomorrow it will adjust.

I sold about 25% to pay off my credit card debt. Was a nice feeling. I've been waiting for this for 3 years, and everyone thought I was crazy buying thousands of shares of a penny stock. I knew it was very undervalued though. Im going to hold it longer as its shown good strength after the pop, and I think it could hit $5 +eventually. It doesn't run with the market generally.
It was nice to finally get a real win.

I've been doing well on VOO for the last 3 years. I am concerned about the next few months though.

Once enough people are vaccinated that the hospitals aren't being overwhelmed, that will trigger governors to let up on the Covid precautions and things will begin to return to normal. Those businesses that survive will thrive, as they have less competition than they did before Covid.  Those of these businesses which have sold public stock will be doing quite well.

So overall, I think the stock market will boom, especially in the second half of the year.  People are going to party like its 2000 once they are able to.

Market depends on how low negative interest rates go and how many times money will be printed from trees and handed out to big businesses like it has been since 2009

I got out the other day... I'm at the age that I can't handle the
volatility and I want to make make it easier for my wife when I bite the
big one... I was up 15% when I got out... I figure that is enough
