Oldtimer review on coming back
« on: March 10, 2022, 02:27:15 PM »
14 years since I last played.  Makes me essentially a newbe..
Retired in December and decided to give this game another shot.
New computer that handles this game easily.

On the second tour and being new I see why it's hard to grow the player base.
This game has a large learning curve. With many veterans. if you like to mix it up
you as I do, you are going to get your bellybutton handed to you the vast majority of time.

Having once been a veteran I know it will take months to get back up to speed. If I hadn't
been there, I would have quit during the first tour. Crap I couldn't even land...

and... my gunnery sucks..

Being it is hard to find a fight I was thinking of the option of killing tool sheds but where is the
bomber info on setting runs up, calibrating bomb sites ???

Thought about tanks but where is the info on spawn points, load outs etc etc etc ???

I'm a furballer in a land of base takers.

If I want to kill tool sheds, how many tool sheds have to be blown up in the town ???

There IS NO INFO ON TAKING A BASE, KILLIN TOOL SHEDS, SETTING UP A BOMBER......

MY GUNNERY SUCKS !!!!!!

It's ALL about the fight..

Here is a page with basic instructions from the Hitech site:

https://www.hitechcreations.com/support/support-help

Here is a page with some basic stuff that I wrote once upon a time:

http://kentwoodstation.com/NewPilots/NewPilotsStart.html

Most of your answers will probably be in one of these sites, especially the first one.

Then come back here with any questions, and we can fill in the gaps.

AH has become a small pond with a bunch of big sharks. Yes it is very difficult for a new player to get a rewarding experience when first starting out. That being said new players rarely reach out for help. In the last couple of years I've seen more seasoned players seek assistance with the game than I have had new players.

For me gunnery is a highly perishable skill, and unfortunately I don't fly enough to keep that skill up to any proficient level. So your safest place is to be out in front of me. The other skills I struggle with because of reduced activity is judging E, and timing.

My favorite part of AH is FSO, and scenarios, and they are starting a new scenario next Saturday (3/19) at 2100 est. So come join us for the "Road to Berlin" scenario, and if you would like to check out FSO I can help you with that as well.

I remember you I'd say 'welcome back' but I'm not back myself yet.  I've got a timetable to get back and I'm working on it.  You'll get that gunnery back dude.  Just practice.  I remember you being pretty good back in the day :)

Dichotomy at my very best I was average.  SA is coming around. Reversals are coming around, but I can't hit sh*t.
Even an assist once in awhile. ....would be nice.

Very frustrating. But it's fun when I find the fight. I shoot my clip of bullets, miss everything I shoot at, do the pilot thingy and sometimes survive.

As long as it's a fight.

Flew a bomber mission today. I dozed off...

Last bomber mission for me..

I was almost overcome with excitement..

The tool sheds are safe when I'm around. Come to think of it, so are the enemy planes.

because....

I CAN'T HIT SH*T !!!!!

Took me a year of playing with convergences in the different planes I fly to finally hit between 7-14% coming from another sim, 3% in the beginning. I tell my sqd members what I use when they ask but follow that with the, "this is what works for me at the distance/sight picture I use", so don't expect to plug my numbers in and watch them fall out of the sky :)
Go into the training arena or offline and pull up the target and set it at where you normally engage the enemy, say 400 or closer or whatever then see where they land and adjust convergence from there. It's /.target 400 to set it for 400 in front of you. Zoom in and check the hits. Add or subtract by 25 and dial it in. 50 cals, various 20mm add even more fun to the solution. Then hit the melee and watch it not work because no one flys straight and level  :joystick: adjust some more and hope it works out.

Deflection shooting, whole nuther guessing game there.  :bhead

This is a game of skill that with time and practice one becomes better at it..

Seems to me these days that many/majority of younger players don't have the patience for that ... they just want to buy their way to the top without putting in the time and energy needed..

They don't stick it out as they do not get immediate satisfaction and they don't have the patience to change that..

Not sure that there's a fix for that

If I have a straight on shot, I get the yips so bad I'm shooting at the western
 hemisphere, not a plane. Really....

If I get to the position of inside the turn of the enemy (Every sortie) being I fly a Spit V most of the time. He's under my nose and I can't for the life of me get the lead down, or I'm wrong in where he will cross or pop out from under my nose.

THATS the lead I want to get down. Happens multiple times a sortie cuz everyone is flying late war and I can out turn most, but just can't convert..

Nopoop are you using vr?

That is the best way to shoot better IMO .. it worked for me

Deflection shots are much easier..some surprise me when they hit :)
