It is pretty entertaining to watch grown men reduce themselves to sniveling teenage girls over 1 person in a cartoon airplane game, I have to admit...
You are so right!
They get so deep in this fantasy that they actually start to (subconsciously) believe they are real pilots. So many talk about ACM and god knows what and they read about. Much of which is poorly modeled in this "game" (trim to name just one). Is it fun? hell yes. Is it modeled correctly? Only in some atributes (wing stall-spin, accelerated stall, e management). Have the many "players" figured out how to "game the game?" Yes, does that make them good pilots? Not a chance just good gamers,
Some examples, the stick stir, a crappy tactic in RL but fun to watch as they panic. Engine off is another one ( a spinning disk under torque is a better brake than a freewheeling prop in RL ad safer to, the full on set up for a ho, is yet another and I have done that too. I won't even mention Finetime doing a 720 degree roll in a b-17 in under two seconds without losing his drones. yep he was showing off. The sooner people realize this is not a test of skill so much as a test of learning what the game will allow and not allow (how some players seem to see right through the bottom of their plane still puzzles me while others can do hard g 180 nose level turns and still catch the guy that passed em doing 350 in very short order - often the same plane too). Those are the reasons not to take this game too seriously. Don't even get me started on GV tricks not remotely related to RL.
That said I have seen some guys fly their planes like they actually would be flown (to a degree) and actually use great tactics to their advantage, those are far and few in between though but are the only ones I salute. As for the guys who show up at furballs and pick a lot from alt, it just reveals what they are about.. "look at me" "look i just landed X kills" "See, I am a great stick" and that self-honoring is reflected in this thread and YouTube to a huge degree, actually it is pathetic.
