I used the F-14 curve for the F-4 from this detent calculator and it works well enough.

Just had my first start up, taxi, and take off (with the help of a youtube video).  I winged the landing on my own and somehow made it without a scratch! I was a little too excited lol :rofl

Alright!

Get the basics down before going off to war. Ivan can wait.

Memorial Day sale likely in a few days. Don't let that pressure you into buying something. Sales come and go every 3-4 months.

You can still get rides in a real f104 at kennedy space center from “starfighters”.

Next time I’m up doing aero testing and the pilots come over to see the cars, i’ll try to ask if any have tried the f104 in a sim.

Ya know, I have, well... had a cousin (2nd or something) who flew those, along with almost everything else between Korea & the late 70s.  Between his stories and stuff I've read, I would be no kidding nervous as hell about a joy-ride in one of those things.

It's amazing how touchy everything is!! IDK if it's supposed to be super sensitive or if it's a stick setting.

Go to the control settings, select your pitch, click axis tune, add a curve. Repeat for roll. Maybe a 15 for starters.

I add a LOT of curve for rudder... on everything.  For the Stick I usually set to 15.  That said, I don't think I'll ever get my head around the rudder.  Doesn't matter what plane, it seems like it's way, way, way, too sensitive.  I have no idea regarding real life, but it just doesn't feel right.

Most of the aircraft modeled in DCS (and AH) have a traditional joystick with the axis base on the floor. If you have a physical joystick like that then you are producing smaller inputs to the aircraft for larger physical movements than you will with a short desktop style joystick. Adding a curve can help compensate for that.

I've added extenders (but much shorter than full length) to my Warthog and Virpil sticks. Don't need the leverage for the Virpil like I do the Warthog but the extension also provides finer control.

I barely ever used rudder in AH.  I mean, I did, just not much.  I had a significant dead-space on rudder (AH) just so I wouldn't be tempted (or accidentally) use it when lining up a shot.
